A HOST of Scottish talent has been lined up to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.

Glasgow plans a three-day birthday extravaganza which will see a projection of the life and times of the Bard screened on the front of the City Chambers.

It has been devised by projection artist Ross Ashton who created similar large-scale works at Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Jubilee in 2002 and Edinburgh Castle for the Military Tattoo.

The event will start on January 23 and run until Burns Night on January 25 when there will be a concert in the square.

Comedian Andy Cameron will be master of ceremonies and performers will include The Red Hot Chili Pipers, Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus, choir the Sirens of Titan and the Phoenix Honda Glasgow Skye Pipe Band.

Renowned public speaker David Sibbald will toast the Immortal Memory.

The Burns Night programme, which will run between 5.45pm and 8pm will also feature a special ceremony and fireworks.

A city council spokesman said: "The depiction of Burns' life and times will take the form of a dramatic lighting projection with accompanying music and narrative soundtrack, creating a rich tapestry of moving images on the facade of the City Chambers.

"The projection will run for 15 minutes shown on a loop.

"Glasgow is the home of one of the biggest Burns' collections in the world, held in the Mitchell Library, with the original manuscript of Auld Lang Syne being a prized part of the collection.

"Pieces from this collection will be used by Ross Ashton when creating his projections."
