THE number of attacks on frontline hospital workers in Glasgow shames the city.

Worse still is the low number of alleged offenders taken to court and the few who were convicted of violent behaviour.

What is the point of making assaults on these workers an "aggravated" offence when a huge majority of their assailants aren't even prosecuted?

How is it possible that almost 4000 alleged assaults were reported last year but only 14 people were convicted?

The only conclusion is that the courts and the police are not dealing properly with offenders.

To defeat the problem the police and Sheriffs must start using the full force of the law. An ideal advert for 2014 Games

THE prospect of some of the world's best athletes training in Glasgow for the 2012 Olympics is mouth-watering.

The chance to watch these stars of track and field go through their paces will inspire young people throughout Scotland to get involved in sport As host city for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the facilities must provide the ideal test-bed to ensure they're up to international standards.

The challenge now is for council bosses to sell the city as a world-class venue with facilities to match.

That would be the ideal advertisement for Glasgow 2014.
