SO it's finally happened (but don't ask us how). Your dreams have been realised, and your bank account has, overnight, had £100,000 added to it.

There's only one catch: you can't use the money to pay off any debts - it has to be spent on something that will give you lasting pleasure.

So what would you spend the cash on?

The question has been prompted by news that the first generation of space tourists will fly from Scotland within five years - at a cost of £100,000 each.

Sir Richard Branson's latest company, Virgin Galactic (VG), has finally ended its Europe-wide search for a space port by plumping for RAF Lossiemouth, the largest and busiest fast-jet base in the Royal Air Force.

At the start of the 59th International Astronautical Congress in Glasgow, VG said Lossiemouth was a perfect' choice and added: "Space tourism can now become reality."

If everything goes to plan, the first space flights could take off from the Moray base in 2013.

Many people have dreamed about going into space - but not everyone will be able to afford the astronomical asking-price.

Hence the hypothetical question: if you had £100,000 to burn, what would you burn it on?

Would you make a down-payment on a second home in Dubai, buy a really good sports car, splash out on front row tickets at the World Cup, or invite your pals on an all-expenses paid sunshine holiday?

Would you buy your own pub, sail around the world, take your loved one on a luxury romantic trip on the Orient Express, or book a private gig in your back garden by your favourite band?

Would you consider buying a helicopter, or putting the money towards a new home in Glasgow?

Or does the lure of space travel - and the heady prospect of being one of the first space tourists from Scotland - sound to tempting to miss?

Would you give the money to Branson in exchange for the chance to go where few have gone before? From fast cars to flash holidays, you know how you'd spend it all DAVID VANCE, company director, Hamilton: I would spend the money on cars. The one car I would like to buy would be a Bentley. VICTORIA SINCLAIR, 18, student, Paisley: I study in Edinburgh so it would be great to splash out and buy a flat through there. GEORGE BRADLEY, IT, Dublin: With the money I would like to pay off my mortgage and then I would spend the rest on a round the world tour. BRIAN SMITH, 20, student, Riddrie: If I had £100,000 then I would like to spend it on buying a house somewhere in Glasgow. THOMAS ALLEN, 21, Kirkintilloch: I would spend the money on a holiday. I have always wanted to go to Las Vegas so it would be great to go there with the money. SUSAN JAMIESON, 19, student, Lenzie: With £100,000 I would buy a nice car first and then I would like to buy a house. VARI JACK, 19, Lenzie: I would pay for driving lessons and then once I had learned to drive I would buy a really fast car to annoy my friend. GLYN EDWARDS, 20, student, Kirkintilloch: It would be quite fun to buy a helicopter - but I would need to have some lessons first!
