THE hurt felt by Campbell Money at the manner of his Cumnock team's Citylink Junior Cup elimination by nine-man Arthurlie has sparked a stunning double signing swoop.

Experienced former Nock midfield general Stevie Farrell has been brought back from Irvine Meadow, whom he joined last close season, while taking the exact same route to Townhead Park is similarly out-of-favour Medda ace Joe Gold.

Now Money is hoping the newcomers can act as the perfect painkiller to that Dunterlie reverse by helping secure three precious league points in this weekend's vital league match at home to Bellshill Athletic.

He said: "Stevie is someone who wants to play all the time so warming a seat on Meadow's bench was not to his liking.

"Stevie would be first to admit he's not the quickest around the pitch, however he's a great talker and organiser with an inherent ability to retain possession in the heat of battle and that more than compensates for any lack of blinding pace.

"Joe gives us something different because he is a box-to-box midfielder who can make runs beyond our strikers and weigh in with a few goals.

"Unfortunately he's been out of the Medda picture and as a consequence is a little short of match fitness, however you can take it as read that both he and Stevie will figure on Saturday."

Providing funds for the new additions is seen as a clear statement of intent that club officials are backing Money to the hilt, despite criticism over last weekend's Citylink Cup demise and their current status as bottom of the Super Premier pile.

Yet refreshingly he is not one for offering up excuses, even though it is widely recognised that the long-term injuries continuing to rule Richie Barr, Gareth Armstrong and Stevie Murray out of his selection thoughts have undoubtedly contributed to Cumnock's slump.

He said: "Our bad position in the league just now is down to myself and the players so it is up to us to put things right.

"Of course we have much work to do but it would be a greater concern if I did not feel confident that we possess the necessary quality and dressing room spirit to fight our way up the table.

"Picking up a first league win and all three points against Bellshill would do for starters and go a long way to showing we mean business."

Meanwhile, keeping fingers crossed that he can pick up where he left off against Cumnock is Arthurlie's skillful striker Stevie Hagi' Anderson.

The former St Mirren signing is hoping his match-winning contribution in coming off the bench to kill off the Ayrshiremen with two late goals, may have earned him a starting jersey when third-placed Beith make the short hop through to Dunterlie on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, delighted to have finally broken his scoring duck with the Barrhead club, said: "Obviously my aim is to command a regular place in the team, but if it doesn't happen this week then I'll just keep working away until it does.

"That's us now won two games in a row for the first time since September and we are desperate to keep our winning run going against Beith."

No fewer than five former Lie favourites - Johnny Miller, Stevie Convery, Ian Ashcroft, Derek Rhodden and physiotherapist Billy Henderson - will fill the visiting dugout.

The old boys' link is every bit as evident out on the pitch with Marc McShane, Chris Kerr, Derek McCulloch, Martin McGarvey and Brian Sniffer' McKeown itching to do well against their former team.

Elsewhere, Vale of Clyde supporters are set to get their first glimpse of new signing Derek Anderson when the Tin Pail host the visit of Neilston.

Vale gaffer Gerry McGregor is also thought to have enquired after transfer-seeking Cumnock front man Michael Hughes, whose availability is also interesting Rob Roy and Lanark United.
