THIS high-flying quartet aims to make Scotland proud at the world's largest gymnastics event.

Amanda Brown, 10, Erin Alfred, 11, Nicola Stewart, 12, and Zakira Wong, 8, are members of the Dynamite Gymnastics Club in Scotstoun.

It is one of only four Scottish teams taking part in the 13th World Gymnaestrada.

More than 25,000 athletes from around the world will travel to Austria in July to take part in the five-day festival, organised by the International Gymnastics Federation.

Ellena Devitt, from Tollcross, set up Dynamite - a display gymnastics school - during her Honours year at university.

She said: "My friends and family thought I was mad to take on something like that while I was studying but at first I thought it would just be a small venture that would look good on my CV.

"I'd no idea it would grow the way it has."

The club earns just enough from class fees to cover running costs - so Ellena works full time as well as overseeing five lessons a week and 80 young performers.

Dynamite has only been running since 2004, but has already enjoyed success with annual tours round the UK and Ireland.

Ellena, 24, is now looking to gain world-class status for her club - but worries the team won't be able to raise enough money to travel to Austria.

She said: "We don't receive any outside funding and the club really doesn't make any money, so we've been fundraising as hard as we can for the past year."

The team has put on race nights and packed bags at supermarkets to raise £30,000 needed to take it to Austria.

So far, the gymnasts have raised an impressive £24,000, but with the trip two months away they're running out of time to earn the rest of the cash.
