A MEMORIAL service will be held for a teenage girl who died after being hit by a van on a busy road.

Tributes will be paid to Jade McQueen next Thursday as her pals try to come to terms with her death.

Friends and teachers will gather for the service at Knightswood Secondary School in Glasgow.

As the school year draws to a close, Jade's schoolpals will have a chance to share their memories of her before the summer holidays.

Jade, 15, of Archerhill Road, Knightswood, died just days before her 16th birthday in March.

She lost her fight for life five days after suffering horrific injuries in the accident in Anniesland Road, outside Knightswood Secondary.

Jade's family kept a bedside vigil for her at Glasgow's Southern General Hospital but she never regained consciousness.

Her friend Zoe Wilson, 14, who was also knocked down, was treated at the Western Infirmary.

Jade's mum Karlyn McMonagle, 36, paid tribute to her daughter.

She said: "All Jade could talk about was turning 16. She was already doing hairdressing part-time at college and that's all she wanted to do.

"She always had a spark about her and she was a friend as well as a daughter."

Jade had an older sister Toni, 17, who suffers from Down's Syndrome, younger sisters Shauney, 14, and Kelsey, 7, and brothers Dylan, 9, and Robbie, 6. She also had two half-siblings.

After the accident her friends made her a special book with messages and pictures wishing her a speedy recovery. But sadly Jade died before she got the chance to see it.

Karlyn added: "She never really came round and was only semi- conscious and thereafter in a coma."

Knightswood Secondary head teacher Ian Muchan said: "We have organised a small service next Thursday to commemorate Jade's life and her contribution to the school.

"The service will be led by the Rev Adam Dillon, who conducted Jade's funeral."

Just weeks after the accident it was revealed a pedestrian crossing was to be installed near the scene of the accident.

Residents had called for traffic safety measures in the area.

The crossing announcement by the city council was not directly linked to the accident as talks were in the pipeline before Jade's death.
