A TRUCE has been called in the war of words emanating from the clash in last weekend's Evening Times Cup-Winners' Cup Final which left Pollok skipper Stevie Aitchison with a triple fracture of a cheekbone.

And it's all because contrite Irvine Meadow midfielder Gareth Turner, whose raised elbow caused the horrific injuries, made the sporting gesture of phoning Aitchy this week to offer his sincere apologies.

The Lok defensive stalwart said: "I fully appreciated Gareth getting in touch to explain his view of what happened, and I believe him when he says there was nothing malicious in his actions.

"He reckoned I was just dazed from a head-knock picked up in our collision, but I had felt my face and knew right away that I had suffered a bad one."

Lok boss Rab Sneddon saluted his gesture when saying: "I'm delighted the lad Turner has taken it upon himself to phone Stevie and it's what you want to hear in the Juniors.

"Possibly the only reason a few backs were up in the first place was through nobody from Irvine Meadow enquiring about Stevie's well-being after the game.

"Hopefully he can now make a full recovery and we can put the whole incident to bed."

Word on the transfer front today has it that Arthurlie are closing in on promising East Kilbride midfielder Sean Winter, who only made the step up into the Junior arena midway through last season. Ardrossan beat Kilwinning 3-1 in last night's North Ayrshire Cup Final at Meadow Park in Irvine.
