A WEEKEND of knife mayhem and violence in Glasgow left one man dead and put six others in hospital.

A murder hunt was launched after a 26-year-old was stabbed to death at a bus stop on the south side of the city.

The man, believed to be a Hungarian working as a bus driver, was attacked after some friends became involved in an argument with two other men in a South-Side street.

He died at the scene, while a 24-year-old man needed hospital treatment for his injuries.

Four other people were also taken to Glasgow hospitals with knife wounds after a series of violent clashes. A 15-year-old boy was stabbed during a gang fight in the West End yesterday.

Children as young as 10 fought in Queen Margaret Drive in the late afternoon.

The teenager was treated in hospital for a stab wound.

Late last night, a man was knifed in the East End. He's in a serious but stable condition in the Royal Infirmary after an incident in Whitslade Street.

And early this morning, two men were stabbed during a disturbance in Bath Street.

Police said a 22-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were injured around 4am. Both were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where they were said to be in a stable condition.

The other victim of the weekend violence was a 23-year-old man who suffered head injuries after a disturbance on Saturday night in Rutherglen's Toryglen Road.

He is in a serious condition in the Southern General Hospital after the incident, which happened around 8pm.

The death of the bus driver stunned residents in the area.

The man was attacked as he stood on Carnwadric Road, Kennishead, with a woman and two men.

There was an argument with two other men around 12.55am yesterday. The 26-year-old was assaulted and died at the scene. A 24-year-old man was also injured and was taken to the Southern General Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Streets surrounding the death scene were immediately cordoned off after the stabbing.

One woman said: "I was on my way home at around 2am and streets were already blocked off.

"Police wouldn't let us go any further and we heard that a man had been stabbed. It's no surprise as things just keep getting worse around here."

"There are lots of Eastern European people in the area and you could not meet a nicer bunch. This has shocked everyone."

Police today announced they had arrested two men in connection with the death.

An 18-year-old and a 20-year-old were due to appear in court today.

Detective Inspector William Coyle said: "I would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Carnwadric Road and Hopeman Street and may have witnessed the incident or anyone who may have seen two males running in the area afterwards."
