A THUG who knifed two men and then went partying all weekend has been caged for 45 months.

The High Court in Glasgow heard Jamie Buist, 20, stabbed the men after a row outside a takeaway food shop.

Buist, of Keil Crescent, Dumbarton, admitted assaulting Darren King, 19, and Mark MacLeod, 20, with a knife to their severe injury and permanent disfigurement on September 8 last year at West Bridgend, Dumbarton.

The first offender was originally charged with attempting to murder both men but the Crown accepted his guilty plea to the reduced charges.

Mr King was stabbed in the stomach, left arm and back. He had to undergo surgery to repair a hole in his stomach and diaphragm and spent nine days in hospital.

Mr MacLeod was stabbed in the back and arm and required stitches.

Both men have been left scarred for life.

Judge Lord Brailsford, sentencing Buist to detention yesterday, said: "These were serious attacks involving a knife.

"However, you are not assessed as being at high risk of perpetrating further offences."

Thomas Ross, defending, said Buist, an employee of West Dunbartonshire Council, had taken cannabis and alcohol before the stabbings.

Mr Ross added: "He has little or no memory of what happened.

"However, he does appear to be genuinely remorseful. He is upset he inflicted these injuries on these young men."

At an earlier court hearing, Bernard Ablett, prosecuting, said the attack took place at midnight outside the Taj Tandoori.

A fight broke out and for no apparent reason Buist pulled out a knife and attacked Mr MacLeod and Mr King.

Mr Ablett added: "He stabbed Mr MacLeod on the left arm and back. He then ran at Mr King stabbing him in the abdomen, left arm and back."

Buist later handed himself in to police and said he had been partying all weekend after the incident.
