A happy, hard-working team with decades of experience want just one thing - a hotel where they can all work together.

The waiters and kitchen staff from the former Bewley's Hotel in Bath Street, Glasgow, were shocked when they lost their jobs after the venue changed hands in a £10million deal.

However, instead of wallowing in self-pity, the 13 staff, who include five kitchen workers, three supervisors and five waiting staff, have taken the unusual step of offering their services as a team to the city's hospitality industry.

Waitress Amie Barclay-Philp, 19, of Springburn, believes the team's package of skills and experience will be attractive to employers.

She said: "I had never worked in a restaurant where all the staff got on as well as we did.

"When you have hard-working staff offering themselves as a team, it is obviously an advantage to an employer."

The eight-storey, 104-room, hotel, which has been called 110 Bath Street for the past three months, was bought last September by Rossmark Hotel Group, which wants to turn it into a "boutique experience" named Marks.

It is due to open in the summer and bedrooms have already been refurbished.

Rossmark, a subsidiary of Baronsgate Estates, which owns a string of shopping centres across Scotland and Ireland, at first honoured workers' contracts.

However, a fortnight ago, staff were sent letters asking them to attend individual appointments to discuss redundancy and yesterday they finally lost their jobs.

Now they are gathering their CVs to send out joint applications in the hope another establishment is in need of a team.

Stef Neilson, 19, from Rothesay, Bute, said: "We are friends and a highly-committed workforce who work better because we know each other."

A spokeswoman for the hotel, which incorporated the restaurant, Loop, said: "The extensive work in the restaurant has resulted in a 14-week closure affecting a number of staff employed there.

"We have liaised closely with everyone involved to find the best possible solution, with many staff being given the opportunity to apply for alternative positions.

"We have plans to bring additional jobs to the city long term." Anyone who would like to employ the team should contact: amie_644@hotmail.com
