THE SHERIFF (Motherwell) - I have long been a fan of Nottingham Forest, and would be grateful if you provide details of Kenny Burns' career with the City Ground club? BURNS joined Forest from Birmingham City in July 1977 for a reported fee of £100,000. In his first season, he won a League Championship medal and a League Cup winner's medal with Brian Clough's side. He would go on to win European Cup medals in 1979 and 1980 and also picked up a League Cup runners-up medal for 1979/80. Burns played 137 league matches in which he scored 13 goals for the club. In 1978, he received the Football Writers' Player of the Year Award. Kenny also had spells at Rangers (ground staff) Leeds, Derby and Barnsley, plus a loan spell at Notts County. He gained 20 caps for Scotland, scoring once.

SARACEN (Glasgow) - Players and managers nowadays complain about playing two games in one week. Can you confirm that Celtic once played two games in one DAY, winning both to clinch the league title? I think this happened around 1914 and their opponents were Raith Rovers at home and Motherwell away. THE season was 1915/16 and the date was April 15, 1916. Celtic played Raith Rovers then Motherwell on the same day, winning 6-0 at home to Raith then 3-1 at Fir Park to clinch the title with three games to go.

GER INTAE EM (Sighthill) - Was Charlie Miller a member of the Rangers side that completed the nine league titles in a row back in season 1996-97? YES. But more than that, he crossed the ball for Brian Laudrup to net the only goal of the game against Dundee United up at Tannadice that clinched the title on May 7, 1997.

WILL BROWN (via email) - Who was it bought the lad Scheidt from Brazil, John Barnes or Martin O'Neill? Also, how much did he cost and where is he now? Rafael Felipe Scheidt signed for Celtic on December 15, 1999, from Brazilian side Gremio. The reported fee of £4.8m was paid by the John Barnes/Kenny Dalglish management team.

It is fair to suggest he was less than successful at Celtic Park and in 2000, after only three appearances, Martin O'Neill loaned him to Corinthians. He later joined another Brazilian club, Botafogo, but was released by them last year and we have no knowledge of his present whereabouts.

DOUBTFUL (Airdrie) - My mate, who is a bit of a wind-up merchant, assures me Denis Law once scored seven goals in an English Cup tie and still ended up on the losing side. I am sure that this is a trick question - can you please clarify? Technically, I suppose your mate is correct. In January 1961, Denis played for Man City against Luton in an FA Cup fourth- round tie. Luton took a 2-0 lead, only for Denis to score six in reply. The game was being played in torrential rain, and with just over 30 minutes to play the ref decided the pitch had become unplayable and abandoned the game. In the replayed match, Denis scored again, but Luton won 3-1.

Although the goals from the abandoned match would not officially count, it is true he scored seven in a cup tie and still ended up on the losing side. Happy birthday, Bhoys and Blues

CAIRNEY (Wyndford) - How many teams in Scotland and England have won the league in their centenary year? A number of teams in Scotland and England have won league championships in their centenary year, but only Celtic (1988) and Chelsea (2005) have done so in the Premier Divisions of their respective countries. Other centenary year league winners in Scotland to date are Dumbarton (1972) in Division Two, Partick Thistle (1976) in Division One and St Mirren (1977) in Division One. In England, Stoke City (1963) in Division Two, Blackburn (1975) in Division Three, Wolves (1977) in Division Two, Burnley (1982) in Division Three, Brentford (1999) in Division Three and Southend United (2006) in League One.
