The programme for this year's Edinburgh Art Festival has been revealed following the appointment of Joanne Brown as its first director.

A major attraction will be two exhibitions focusing on the life and works of Picasso, one at the Dean Gallery entitled Picasso on Paper, with around 100 drawings borrowed from Stuttgart's Staatsgalerie, the other at the National Museums of Scotland called Picasso: Fired With Passion, showing photographs, personal objects and examples of his work from after the Second World War, when he was living in the south of France.

Other highlights include a showcase of about 200 of Andy Warhol's works at the National Gallery of Scotland, which is also showing paintings, prints and poetry by William Blake. Edinburgh Printmakers will exhibit South African artist William Kentridge's work, while photographs by American William Eggleston will be at Inverleith House.

UK artists are well represented, including shows of work by Turner Prize nominee Nathan Coley at doggerfisher, David Batchelor at Talbot Rice and Rachel Whiteread at the Ingleby Gallery. The festival will be launched on July 26 and runs until September 2.
