TWO years on, Colette McCann, 28, is still recovering from the trauma she suffered at the hands of a ''neighbour from hell'', writes Lorna MacLaren.

After months of being harassed by a male neighbour in her flat in Cadder, Glasgow, he set her home on fire. Luckily, that night she and her daughter Shannon were sleeping at a friend's house. She said: ''My young daughter and I were victimised, terrorised and finally burned out of our home.''

Her 25-year-old neighbour was found guilty of wilful fire raising, assault, and breach of the peace. He was sent to Barlinnie Prison for 12 months but is now free.

For nearly a year, he had targeted the mainly elderly residents of the close. When Ms McCann asked politely one day for him to mind his language in front of her child, his animosity towards her grew, culminating in the fire.

Although now rehoused, Ms McCann has not yet recovered.

Her mother, Elizabeth Docherty, said: ''When something like this happens, it is shocking how alone you feel. Colette has tried to move on but what happened has left its scars. To feel such hate from a stranger is simply terrifying.''
