FRANKFURT: Customs agents at Frankfurt airport discovered 1300 Mexican bird spiders worth #8750 hidden in the luggage of a French woman, who has been charged with smuggling an endangered species. She was arrested because she had an unusually large amount of luggage for a short trip. All the spiders were female and 112 had died in transit. The survivors, most of them pregnant, were placed with various zoos, pending return to their natural habitat.
