FORMER Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown is to make his first appearance at a Labour Party Conference, it was disclosed yesterday. He will share a platform with Foreign Secretary Robin Cook at a fringe meeting next week in Bournemouth on creating the conditions for early intervention in international crises like Kosovo and East Timor. His appearance will be seen as a further indication of his desire to see the Liberal Democrats continue the policy of working with the Government, which he developed with Tony Blair.
