BLACKBURN Rovers’ attempts to solve their set-piece problem continued at Brockhall yesterday.

Gary Bowyer’s side have now conceded seven goals from dead-ball situations in 11 matches since the turn of the New Year.

And Rovers boss Bowyer, who saw Blackpool equalise from a free kick on Saturday, said: “To rectify it you have to sit down with the players and go through the video and show them on the screen and then get out there and involve them.

“There have been good discussions about it in the last couple of weeks, for sure, but even more so today on the training field because we don’t want to be giving teams a get out of jail free card.

“It’s about having the desire to win the first header and then win the second.

“There’s nothing more certain than that – it’s got to be a desire to make sure they don’t score or don’t get that first contact.

“That’s what we’ve worked on in the last couple of weeks but we’ve gone over it again with them today.”

Meanwhile, a contentious late penalty denied Blackburn Rovers victory over U18s Premier League North champions-elect Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Lewis Hardcastle fired Brian Carey’s side in front with his second goal of the season early in the second half.

But, in the closing stages of the Brockhall clash, the midfielder was adjudged to have given away the spot-kick which Joe Wheatley converted to earn table-topping Boro a 1-1 draw.

Rovers boss Carey said: “It was a really good test and a good contest for our lads.

“We had the chances to win it so we were disappointed not to get the victory.”
