BLACKBURN Rovers defender Tommy Spurr admitted he was glad to be back in the first team picture having returned from an injury nightmare in the 1-1 weekend draw with Blackpool.

But the left-back admitted the result with the Championship’s bottom side was not what he or his team-mates wanted.

Spurr made his first start of the season in the draw having suffered with groin injuries since the tail end of last season and the former Doncaster man completed 90 minutes without any signs of the injury.

He said: “I’ve managed to work through it and now I’m buzzing to be back out and starting a game here at Ewood.

“It would have been nice to get the win and come back into a winning side but it wasn’t to be.

“We battled hard and created quite a few chances but didn’t take them which cost us in the end.

“I enjoyed it, I’m glad to be back in, I’m just disappointed not to get the win as that would have topped everything off.”

The 27-year-old admitted the time spent on the sidelines had been frustrating adding that his main aim now was to cement his place in Rovers’ starting line-up having watched Markus Olsson impress at left back so far this season. The Sweden international was on the bench against Blackpool.

“It has been really hard,” Spurr said. “It has been one of the most frustrating periods of my career.

“It has been my aim for ages just to get a game, so now I’ve done that the plan is obviously to play again and get a run of games.”

Rovers return to action at Ewood Park tomorrow when they host Norwich.
