BLACKBURN Rovers Gary Bowyer has urged the League Managers’ Association to do something to improve working conditions for bosses after hitting out at Brentford’s ‘crazy’ decision to part company with Mark Warburton.

The Bees are rivals of Rovers in the chase for promotion this season but that has not stopped Bowyer from feeling huge sympathy with Warburton, who will leave Brentford at the end of the season despite guiding the club from League One to within touching distance of the Premier League.

Warburton is departing after Brentford’s owner decided to make key changes to the club’s infrastructure and strategy for recruitment of players, despite their recent success.

Bowyer has strongly voiced his disapproval of that decision and has called for a stand to be taken, after growing increasingly concerned by the number of bosses who have been sacked in recent months.

The Rovers boss, whose side host Blackpool in the Championship this afternoon, thinks the role of manager is becoming impossible when even people like Warburton are losing their jobs.

“Sooner or later someone has got to draw a line on it, it’s becoming crazy,” said the Rovers boss.

“The industry is becoming crazy and I don’t know of any other industry where one individual is open to so much criticism, to so much hatred, to so much lack of loyalty. It’s farcical.

“We put ourselves out there and that’s our choice, we choose to do that.

“But if you look over the years it’s gradually getting worse and worse and worse.

“I think the LMA have got to step in personally and do something about it. I’m sure there are things you can look to stipulate and put into people’s contracts.

“Everybody has an opinion on this sport. I don’t take my car to Halfords then go and tell him what he should be doing, because he’s the expert.

“That’s how it is and it’s the same in football, but it’s not.”

Bowyer admits he was stunned when he heard the news about Warburton, who took over at Brentford in December 2013 after Uwe Rosler departed for Wigan Athletic.

“Honestly I can’t believe it,” he said.

“I don’t know the full ins and outs so obviously I have to be careful with what I say, but I think the game is in danger of losing what it’s all about.

“Here’s a man who came in and took over the club when the manager left to go to another club, kept the run going, got them promoted, recruited players playing attractive football.

“It’s disappointing for all football managers what’s going on there.

“I might be speaking out of turn because I don’t know exactly but I’m sure if Mark and his players can just stick together they’ll be fine until the end of the season and in my opinion wouldn’t it be great to get Brentford promoted for Mark Warburton? It would be absolutely brilliant.

“The owners all put their money in and I understand that. As I say we always have this choice, but how can you fault the guy?

“Mark Warburton has done an unbelievable job and (assistant manager) David Weir has been fantastic, they are two very decent men.

“I don’t know enough but from the outside looking in it’s crazy.”
