GARY Bowyer believes defender Matt Kilgallon is playing the best football of his Blackburn Rovers career.

Kilgallon continued his superb form since his recall to the side at the start of the year with a man of the match performance in the 1-1 draw at Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

Rovers boss Bowyer said: “He’s been brilliant for us.

“His experience, his bit of composure in there and calming influence has been terrific.

“He’s probably playing the best he has played since he’s been at the club.”

An otherwise solid defensive display by Rovers in the Welsh capital on Tuesday was spoiled by the goal they let in.

It was the third time in the last four matches they have conceded from a corner.

Bowyer said: “It shouldn’t have even got to a corner – we should have dealt with the long ball up to Kenwyne Jones better that what we did.

“Small margins make the difference and we’ve got to cut that out.”

Top scorer Rudy Gestede rescued a point for Rovers with less than 50 seconds of normal time to play.

After Sean Morrison put Cardiff in front Bowyer threw on Chris Brown instead of Jordan Rhodes who, for the second game running, did not get on the pitch.

It was a move that paid off when Brown played a part in Gestede’s last-gasp equaliser.

But Bowyer has hinted that Rhodes could feature in Saturday’s home clash against rock bottom Blackpool.

He said: “It’s a squad game and we might need to freshen it up against Blackpool because that is three massive efforts some of these lads have put in and we might need to tweak it here and there.”
