And now he is hoping Brewers boss and former Leeds United and Chelsea striker Hasselbaink can come to an agreement with Rovers counterpart Gary Bowyer to extend his stay for the second time.

Lenihan, who can also play in defence, is due to return to Ewood Park on February 7.

And the versatile 20-year-old said: “I’m loving it.

“That was my 10th game and every game I’ve enjoyed.

“It’s a great club to come to and the manager and assistant have given me great confidence to push on and improve my own game.

“I feel like I have improved my game a lot since I came.

“I’ve been involved in 10 games and have started eight and it’s totally different to U21s football.

“Playing in front of crowds is great.

“Playing in front of 14,000 people, like at Fratton Park, instead of 250 is totally different.”

Lenihan then added: “The loan is in Blackburn’s hands.”
