BLACKBURN Rovers’ very own Mr Versatile Ben Marshall insists he can leave his mark on a match no matter where he lines up on the pitch.

Marshall has been used on both wings, behind the forwards and at right-back by Rovers boss Gary Bowyer this season.

And it was in that latter position that the 23-year-old finished last Sunday’s 1-0 home loss to Wolves.

Marshall is expected to be restored to the flanks for today’s derby clash at Wigan Athletic (3pm).

But he would have no problem if he was started further back in the DW Stadium encounter.

Marshall said: “I feel I can do a job wherever I’m put.

“I don’t mind what position I play in because I feel I can still affect the game.

“I feel comfortable at right-back and I don’t mind people running at me because I’ve played wing myself and I can get to grips with what they want to do. Going forward is pretty similar.

“So it’s nice to know I can do that now and in the future. Obviously if I’m higher up the park I’ll get more chances. But I can still affect the game from right-back, going forward and going back.”

Marshall opened his account for the campaign with two stunning strikes in September’s 3-1 home win over this afternoon’s opponents Wigan.

It kick-started a run of six goals in 10 games for the former England U21s international.

But he has failed to find the net in his last 11 matches and he would love his barren run to end this afternoon against the Latics.

Marshall said: “I scored two against them at home and hopefully I can do it again.

“When I got those goals it really kicked me on and I scored a few more.”

Rovers will go into today’s game with struggling Wigan on the back of a run of four defeats in their last six league matches.

They were booed off after they went down to Wolves and Marshall accepts the performance was nowhere near good enough.

He said: “We’ve got to understand at the end of the day the fans pay their money to watch and if they’re not happy, they’re not happy.

“All we can say is stay behind us and we’ll try and bounce back from it.

“We did under-perform, you could see that from the way we played, but all we can do is try and improve on it.

“We’re not panicking because we know we’ve got good players, it’s just about getting it right and hopefully we can kick on.

“We’ve been underachieving and we’ve not been playing the way we can do but we’ve got a good squad and if we get it right we know we can have a good push.

“We know the Championship can change quite quickly. Anyone can beat anyone so all we’ve got to concentrate on is getting on a consistent run together.

“Wigan is a derby and I’m sure if we were to get a win it would boost the fans and it would boost our confidence.”

Bowyer should have a fully fit squad to choose from today.
