THINKING about a possible FA Cup date with Manchester United is like deciding how to spend your lottery winnings before you’re numbers have come in, according to Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman.

The Reds are one win away from a third round showdown at the Store First Stadium with Louis Van Gaal’s side.

Before the second round replay at Yeovil on Tuesday comes a crucial League Two clash on the south coast against Portsmouth, FA Cup winners themselves in 2008, tomorrow.

Pompey are ahead of Stanley on goal difference only as both sides eye a play-off push and while Coleman is keeping minds focused on the trip to Fratton Park, he knows it is inevitable his players will have thought about a possible visit from Wayne Rooney and co.

“I’d be lying if I said it’s not on your mind, because it’s going to be on your mind for what it can bring to the club,” said the Stanley boss.

“But it’s like buying a lottery ticket and your numbers haven’t come up yet, so it’s pointless talking about how you would be spending the money if you haven’t won it.

“That’s the way we’ve got to look at it, if we win and it happens then great, if it doesn’t then we’ve got to concentrate on our league performances.”

Coleman said his players had been talking about the possibility of a third round tie, but added he hadn’t had to do much to get their minds back on the immediate task in hand, which is moving up from 13th place in League Two.

“They’ve had a little bit of banter about it but it’s pointless trying to think about it too much because it’s not there yet and it’s a 50/50 chance it won’t be there,” he said.

“I’ve hardly spoken about it to any of the players, our focus is on trying to win the game on Saturday then trying to win the game on Tuesday.

“What we’ve got to be mindful of is that the lads don’t exert too much nervous energy in the build-up to the game on Tuesday, and that starts this weekend. It will definitely be business as usual, we won’t try and do anything different.”
