BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has praised the unity between his players as he gets set to be handed selection headaches of the pleasant variety.

With Chris Brown and Tommy Spurr back in full training and Jason Lowe firmly on the comeback trail Bowyer could soon by spoilt for choice in most areas of the pitch.

But he is sure the added competition will do little to disrupt the harmony in the camp.

“Fingers crossed we’re getting close to a fully-fit squad as that’s something we’ve not really had throughout our time in charge,” said Bowyer, who still has Matt Kilgallon and Josh King sidelined.

“If we get to that point then the squad would be really competitive. That’s something we’ve worked very hard to get and it would definitely give us good problems.

“But I have to say the lads have been a credit to themselves.

“They’re all in it together, no matter who’s got the shirt from 1-11, they’re so supportive and have been very good, not just to me but to themselves.

“They’re very supportive of each and that’s credit to them and that’s why they’ve got such good spirit and character.

“I think the public of Blackburn appreciate when they see their players giving it a right good go.

“That element has been very important in our recruitment and I think what you see now is a group of players who really care for the club and who really want to achieve something for the club.

“They won’t always get the result their efforts deserve but as long they keep giving it their all, the public will appreciate them a lot more than players who just turn up to collect their money.

“These lads aren’t like that.”

Striker Brown is still waiting to make his first competitive appearance for Rovers after his summer switch from Doncaster.

Defender Spurr, who played alongside Brown at Donny, is also yet to kick a ball this season.

But both players have returned to full training and both are expected to play in a behind-closed-doors friendly next week.

If Spurr and Brown come through that match unscathed then there is every chance they will line-up in a Rovers XI in the Lancashire FA Senior Cup quarter-final tie with Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village on Tuesday, November 25 (7pm).

But first up for Bowyer’s senior side is a big Championship encounter at home to Leeds United a week today.

Winger King and defender Kilgallon, who started his career at Leeds, are unlikely to have recovered from their injuries in time.

Lowe, out since the end of August, is back training on the grass at Brockhall.

But, unlike fellow long-term injury victims Brown and Spurr, he is yet to join in with his team-mates.
