VERSATILE Blackburn Rovers star Ben Marshall has told Gary Bowyer he is happy to continue playing right back.

The midfielder’s performances in the position helped him land a nomination for the Championship player of the month award for September.

With Jason Lowe still sidelined and Alex Baptiste yet to return to full training Marshall is set to continue in the role in the trip to in-form Ipswich on Saturday week.

And, ahead of the Portman Road clash, he has made it clear to his manager that he has no problems with that.

Rovers boss Bowyer said: “He’s absolutely buzzing about playing there and really enjoying it.

“Part of the job is to speak with the players regularly and have conversations with them and he’s said how much he’s enjoying it and how much he feels comfortable there.

“What has been really impressive from his point of view and from our point of view is his one-versus-one defending.

“Look at the calibre of winger he’s had to play against – Lloyd Dyer came on for Watford against him, then he faced the trickery of Paul Taylor at Rotherham, and then, on Saturday against Huddersfield, he came up against Harry Bunn who had come off the back of a goal at Wolves, so he’s not had to defend against average players.

“He’s been tested and he’s come out of it with flying colours.”

Marshall scored three goals during September, including two superb strikes in Rovers’ 3-1 home win over Wigan, and was played on both wings and behind the forwards before being moved to right back midway through the Watford encounter.

However the 23-year-old, who was ruled out of the final three months of last season with ankle ligament damage, has been pipped to the player of the month prize by Ipswich’s Tyrone Mings – the marauding left back he will go head-to-head with next Saturday.

But Bowyer said: “Marshy’s been outstanding, I’ve got nothing but praise for him.

“From where he was in pre-season to where he is now, he’s really got himself into great physical shape and the level of performances he’s produced, his enthusiasm and his attitude to playing anywhere you ask of him, has been phenomenal.”

Mick McCarthy has made it an Ipswich double by being named the Championship’s manager of the month ahead of Rovers’ trip to Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys won four and drawn one of their five matches in September and are unbeaten in seven.

But Bowyer will be boosted by the return of Corry Evans from suspension and David Dunn, Tommy Spurr, Rudy Gestede and possibly, Baptiste, from injury next Saturday.

Top scorer Gestede has not joined up with the Benin squad ahead of their international friendly with Tanzania in order to recover a hamstring strain.
