FORMER Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Jason Brown has claimed he was racially abused during a match for his current club Dartford.

The 32-year-old, who made 16 appearances for Rovers between 2006 and 2011, took to Twitter after Dartford’s Conference Premier clash at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night to state he had been the victim of racist taunts.

Brown tweeted: “Just played against Bristol Rovers and was racially abused by someone who was standing next to a steward who chose not to do anything.

“I ask any Bristol Rovers fan that know this idiot and the steward please go and report him don’t let him bring down your fantastic club.”

Avon and Somerset Police said the incident had been reported to them and they were ‘investigating’.

A statement from Bristol Rovers said the club was helping police identify the suspect and stated that ‘any supporters found to have been involved in the incident will be prosecuted and banned from this football club for life’.

Wales international Brown has spoken publicly against racism in football and has previously questioned the effectiveness of anti-discrimination group Kick It Out.
