BLACKBURN Rovers spent £1.6m on agents’ fees last season – nearly £2m less than in 2012-13 but still the second highest amount in the Football League for 2013-14.

Figures released by the League showed that Rovers paid £1,681,080 to agents across 83 transactions between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014.

Only Championship rivals QPR spent more.

The Hoops, who won promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs, splashed out £1,814,550 to agents across 58 transactions.

Wigan Athletic (£1,656,445 across 70 transactions) and Reading (£1,460,460 across 57 transactions) also shelled out more than £1m to agents.

Rovers were involved in 48 new registrations/transfers and 21 loans last season as they reshaped their squad.

They also updated eight and cancelled six contracts.

Only Bournemouth (£709,231) and Birmingham City (£407,250) were involved in more transactions (89 and 85 respectively).

Leicester City and Burnley, who won automatic promotion to the top flight, spent £343,900 and £327,790 on agents across 30 and 42 transactions respectively.

All 24 Championship clubs committed to pay agents’ fees last season with the total amounting to £14.7m, a 21 per cent fall compared to the previous year (£18.5m).

Rovers, who paid £3.5m to agents across 79 transactions in the 2012-13 season, declined to comment.
