Hull City's attempts to sign Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes 'dead and buried'

HULL City have admitted defeat in their attempts to sign Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of his side's Europa League clash at home to Lokeren tomorrow, Tigers boss Bruce said a deal for Rhodes is now 'dead and buried'.

That comes after Rovers owners Venky's made it clear they have no intention of letting the prolific strikers leave by issuing a strongly worded statement hours before Saturday’s home success over Bournemouth.

Rovers, meanwhile, have signed Scotland U17s international goalkeeper Ryan Crump from Liverpool.

The 18-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal and will provide competition for David Raya in the club's U21s team.

Good. Well done to Venkys for fighting to keep Rhodes and well done to Jordan for behaving impeccably throughout this process. Not many Championship sides would be able to fight off a Premier League team in Europe with money to spend so credit is due. The owners have earned themselves a big chunk of respect from me for the way they have dealt with this and the statement they put out.

He said himself to some of the fans (including myself) after the Bournemouth game that he wasn't going anywhere. So that would tell me he definitely wanted to stay.

Welsh Rover says...

This is not a dig at Burnley fans but Danny Ings, with only one year remaining on his contract, could very well be persuaded to join Hull, provided they offer somewhere in the region of £4-6M. They've got three other strikers fit and Sam Vokes to come back in a few months time. Ings has yet to sit down and agree a new contract with the Clarets and Hull clearly have the funds to offer him improved terms. Also, depending on Thursday's result, they could possibly offer him European football too.

Before anybody says the same could've applied to Rhodes, I'd argue that Rhodes is integral to any promotion challenge we may mount, whereas Burnley are already in the Premier League and, despite being a key factor to getting them there, Ings probably won't be the difference between staying up or getting relegated.

On a side note, I do hope that this news means that TMT will now retire his 'German Tiger' alias as it is just as pathetic as all his others.

Troll = T. Roll = Toilet Roll. I'm sure you can all make the next connection.

Good job Venkys. I have been extremely critical of Venkys in the past, but now they are showing improvement and commitment. Fantastic news, now we can have a real go at getting promoted!

Unfortunately given our now public financial mess we must ironically look to sell Rhodes asap. As the Hull fan above states his value will only drop from this point on and I expect him to move on for much less should he go at the end of the window or in January when we HAVE TO SELL.

Another comedy of errors from the Venkys as we'll now lose millions on any transfer fee. Well done!

Its no wonder we're such a laughingstock with that set of clowns in charge.

Even after reducing our numbers, cutting the wage bill, sacking the high earners.... we still have to make approximately £30m worth of savings. Now if this isnt going to come from the sale of Rhodes at £10m to £12m plus a £2.5m a year saving on his salary, then where exactly is it going to come from?

I told all you deluded goons that we we're f@#ked. I told you!

Wolves v Blackburn Rovers - two clubs who were winning silverware before Man Utd even existed and some would argue have contributed far more to the development of the game than United have.

Just because we don't have lots of 'supporters' in America and the Far East doesn't mean we're not worldwide famous clubs.

I told you!
you have read the article I presume , the losses are for the holding company and BRFC has stated it will only comment on its own accounts.

Good job Venkys. I have been extremely critical of Venkys in the past, but now they are showing improvement and commitment. Fantastic news, now we can have a real go at getting promoted!

Best thing the Venkys have done since they came....as we will SO need Rhodes goals to achieve promotion.

Would have been nice to have the a little of the cash his sale would have generated to further strengthen the squad though - but maybe GB`s visit to Pune was for that very reason, tokeep Rhodes AND get the OK for a couple of new players?

you have read the article I presume , the losses are for the holding company and BRFC has stated it will only comment on its own accounts.
It also states..

"Venky’s London Limited latest accounts posted a deficit £9m worse than 2012-2013."

"Last summer VLL posted losses of £27 million for 2012/2013 followed by Rovers announcing a £36.5 million loss two months later along with a total debt of £54.5 million.

This week’s announcement of a £36million loss by VLL for 2013/2014 makes another massive loss in Rovers' accounts inevitable when they are published before the end of the year."

Going off last seasons performance, this could put the BRFC loss figure at around £46million. A truly shocking level of financial mismanagement.

"Rovers Trust finance officer Dan Grabko said failure to achieve that aim by 2016, when multi-million parachute payments for relegation from soccer’s top flight run out, ‘could be catastrophic’."

How long has Rhodes been leaving according to the news in Yorkshire ??? Every transfer window this site is full of six fingered posts? lol

According to the Guardian 11 championship clubs possibly including rovers are going to get hit with the FFP (that's if its not voted out before January) If it happens then the club will be fined and banned from transfers... but looking beyond that I think this shows there will be no mass exodus, the wage bill must of been brought under some sort of control now... (I can only think of Best as premiership dead wood on the wage bill and no more monthly mangers being paid there term of the contract as compensation) Venkies if they do can also invest £5 million a year which once the wages are under control could account for some of the £8 million parachute payments lost. So if we don't go up this year it's not all doom and gloom :-)

I told you!
you have read the article I presume , the losses are for the holding company and BRFC has stated it will only comment on its own accounts.

£34.6million.

Thats right, we've reduced the wage bill from £39.6m to £34.6m.

So just another £25m to go.

I'm afraid it is all doom and gloom, there is no easy route out of this and I'm betting that the Venkys are considering ridding themselves of this horrific drain on their finances. Who will pay the wage bill then?

God help us all.

I suspect you could be onto something, last season we Burnley maggots managed to avoid playing anyone of any standing for the first 15 games. By this time we were way out in front and hitching a ride on the luck donkey. We then thrashed the living daylights out of said luck donkey until it staggered over the line, where it collapsed and died. We then bullsh1tted ourselves up by playing Austrian part timers and the spanish league equivalent of ross county where the Juker smashed 8 goals thinking that if we give our div 1 floaters enough positive encouragement it will turn a bunch of moneyball misfit no hopers into a premier league side. We were warned, we were warned again, we were implored to see sense. Instead we stuck our heads out of the special bus windows with our tongues out, the one with the shiny wheels.
The rest of the world has told us, we have no clothes on, instead of that amazing non stain ever pressed suit which that geezer down the market sold us ( Burnley directors )
Whilst I was telling everyone on the bus that we were in fact sh1t and not as good as we thought we were, they chose to ignore me and continue sticking their heads out of the window with their tongues out. Every now and again occasionaly shouting, Triipier, Ings, Heaton, Mee and Shackell for England.
Please just laugh at us as we pass you, we are a friendly bunch.

He believes that he is good enough to be a success in the Premier League, but deep down would rather either get there with Rovers, who build their game to suit his talents, or move to a more established club, such as Everton, Spurs. Maybe because they are not that good, average championship players who had a freak season under a very good manager.
I've really got you riled up today havent I Barry.

I told you!

Jordan feels that he is on a learning curve and developing well at Ewood in a great set up. He gets on well with the staff and its close to his West Yorkshire base (as is Hull).
He believes that he is good enough to be a success in the Premier League, but deep down would rather either get there with Rovers, who build their game to suit his talents, or move to a more established club, such as Everton, Spurs. Hull is a bit of a 'middle ground' that is more of a gamble - but he understands that the club holds the cards and would accept a move. Basically he has time on his side and feels its best to stay at Rovers for now...and do his best to get the club promoted.
I have to say Jordan has so far been a real professional in all of this, by signing a new contract he got the benefit of stability, bit also showed great loyalty for a couple of reasons :-

1) It signalled an intent to stay and help the club reach its ambitions.

2) If the club chose or needed to sell him they would be able to ask better money for him, which would benefit the team.

This for me show Jordan is one of those rare bread of players that actually is willing to meet his employers half way and shake on something mutually beneficial.

He could quite easily have signed nothing allowing him to either run down his contract or give buyers the edge in any bargaining, loyalty as high as your likely to see in football today.

You're wrong yet again.

Looks like all this panic about losses, debts and losing our best players is getting to you. You just need to accept it. As Rovers fans this is what we need to get used to.

We have to sell Rhodes to begin to put our house in order. Its going to be a long road back thats for sure.
I notice a change of direction.
You know he isn't going anywhere and now you're panicking.
What a failure.

Can someone confirm that Burnlah got beat again last night? That would make three straight defeats wouldn't it? Perhaps their fortunes will change on Saturday. I hear that their opponents haven't won yet either but have just signed a £70m striker. Could be a close game.

Good post...there are not many Premier League sides who fail in their bids for 4 Championship players...in fact I can only think of one:)

"his West Yorkshire base" Sorry to correct you on that,he lives in Ormskirk. My son doing work on his house.

Good positive posts by Rovers fans today, Great to see some positive vibes flowing and looking forward to the Wolves game already.

I noticed the doomies from the FFP article have slithered back into their odious shells too.

Good times ;)

thats a bit anti social of him...his Mum, Dad and Sister live in Holmfirth and he is often seen in the village centre - maybe thats when he's visiting them! Seems odd, as his dads from Donny, he was brought up in Barnsley and we signed him from Huddersfield...but I'm happy to go with your word!
