BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has warned Championship defences – you might shackle one of my feared frontman but just try stopping the other.

Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede go into tonight’s clash at Norwich City on the back of a sensational scoring run.

The deadly duo have shared 17 goals between them in their last 12 starts alongside each other.

Gestede, a £200,000 bargain buy from Cardiff in January, has weighed in with 11 of those goals with his double strike on Saturday sealing the 2-1 success at Blackpool.

After inspiring Rovers’ first win of the season the towering targetman admitted the attention opposition defences give to his predatory strike-partner Rhodes – who was hardly given a kick by his former Huddersfield Town team-mate Peter Clarke – is allowing him to flourish.

And Bowyer, a defender in his playing days, said: “There’s more to come from Rudy and Jordan as a partnership.

“I read before Saturday’s game that Peter Clarke knew how to shackle and stop Jordan from scoring. “He did that but then we had Rudy.

“They are a really dangerous pair. As a centre back I wouldn’t know which one I would want to mark – I’d probably go and play full back!”

Gestede’s brace against Blackpool took his tally for Rovers up to an impressive 15 in 31 appearances.

Rhodes’ record is even better. He has scored an incredible 53 goals in 98 games since becoming the club’s record £8m signing from Huddersfield in August 2012.

The prolific striker was linked with a summer move to this evening’s opponents Norwich before he signed a new five-year contract with Rovers in July.

At the time of the speculation Neil Adams denied that the Canaries had made a bid for Rhodes.

But yesterday he stated his admiration for the former Ipswich Town youngster.

Norwich boss Adams said: “I know his dad, Andy, very well, I obviously played with his dad at Oldham, and he’s followed Andy around when he was a kid at Ipswich and has moved on.

“What you know with Jordan Rhodes is he scores goals, plain and simple, wherever he plays, he scores goals by the bucketful season in, season out, and that’s why he had such a high price when he moved to Blackburn.

“And I think they’ve just offered him another contract because the price of somebody in the modern game who can bang in 25 goals a season, that’s why people covet them and obviously why Blackburn would want to keep him.”

Adams’ squad includes two former Rovers players, Martin Olsson and Mark Bunn. However neither will feature tonight.

Bunn, who has been linked with a return to Rovers, has slipped to third-choice goalkeeper while Olsson was last night hit with an immediate three-match ban after he was charged with improper conduct by the FA for making physical contact with referee Simon Hooper prior to his sending off in the Canaries’ opening day 1-0 defeat at Wolves.

Up until 5pm yesterday Adams thought he would be able to include Olsson in his plans.

Norwich, meanwhile, are believed to be close to signing Spanish defender Carlos Cuellar.

The 32-year-old spent time training with Rovers in the summer following his release from Sunderland.
