JASON Lowe is refusing to rule out making right back his long-term position if it is for the good of Blackburn Rovers.

Lowe believes he came on ‘leaps and bounds’ as a centre midfielder last season.

But the 22-year-old has been thrust back into the role in which he started his Rovers career after injuries have left Gary Bowyer with just four fully fit senior defenders.

Lowe, if pushed, says he prefers to play in midfield.

But he is confident he can do just as good a job at right back – and the team player is happy to operate in that position for as long as Rovers boss Bowyer wants him to.

Lowe said: “If the manager and the team needs me to play full back then it’s no problem – and it’s the same if they want me to slot back into central midfield.

“I feel I’ve got a pretty good football brain and I can read the game pretty well so, from that respect, I can slot into the different roles and I’m equally comfortable in either.

“Full back is not alien to me because I played there for a Premier League and I felt I came out of it with a bit of credit, so it’s something I’m not afraid to go in there and do.

“Equally I’ve been brought up as a central midfield player and I believe I came on leaps and bounds last year in that position.

“But whichever role I get put in, I just want to continue to improve.”

Lowe is expected to continue at right back in tomorrow’s trip to Blackpool although Bowyer does have the option of putting Ben Marshall there.

But wherever he plays Lowe will be looking for a ‘reaction’ to Tuesday’s Capital One Cup loss to Scunthorpe United.

It proved a bittersweet night for the Academy graduate.

He captained Rovers for the first time in his senior career but he was unable to prevent them from crashing to a 1-0 defeat, a result he labeled as ‘bitterly disappointing’.

Lowe reckons a win over Blackpool would help right the wrongs of midweek.

But the England U21 international disagrees this is the perfect time to face Pool – and insists he has paid no attention to the problems engulfing the troubled Bloomfield Road outfit.

“I take zero notice of what happens over there, I’m just focused on what we’re doing and what we have to do to win the game,” said Lowe, who admits it was ‘proud moment for me and my family’ to lead Rovers out against Scunthorpe.

“Every team goes through an opposition’s strengths and weaknesses but ultimately you’ve got to do your job on the day.

“Every Saturday there’s something that will surprise you and you have to react to it and this game will be no different.

“We’ve just got to focus on what we’ve got to do and if everybody is at it, I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
