BLACKBURN Rovers winger Craig Conway admits he could not have scripted it better that a season that he hopes will end in promotion to the Premier League starts with a clash against his former club Cardiff City.

Rovers kick start the entire Football League campaign tomorrow night when they welcome Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s relegated side to Ewood Park for a live Sky Sports clash (7.45pm).

And Conway cannot wait. The 29-year-old spent two-and-a-half-years at the Bluebirds and played a key role in helping them win the Championship in 2013. But Conway, firstly under Malky MacKay and then under current Cardiff boss Solskjaer, did not see a minute’s action in the top flight.

That led him to jumping at the chance to join Rovers on January transfer deadline day.

After scoring four goals and making 13 more in 18 games in the second half of last season, the Scotland international is ready to get his first full campaign with the club under way – starting against his old employers.

“I couldn’t have written it,” said Conway, whose goal in a 1-1 draw at Rovers’ bitter rivals Burnley in April 2013 secured the Championship title for Cardiff.

“I’m looking forward to it. I had a fantastic time at Cardiff, getting promotion and winning the league.

“The last six months wasn’t enjoyable but the first two years were brilliant.

“I played a lot of games and played a big part of it and loved every minute of it, so I’ve got a lot of memories.

“But I’m a Blackburn player now and that’s where my thoughts firmly lie.

“So hopefully we can get three points in front of our home fans.”

Conway started his career at Ayr United and made his name at Dundee United before joining the Bluebirds in June 2011.

Tomorrow night’s match will be the first time that the set-piece specialist, who had a successful loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion before he made a £100,000 move to Rovers, has faced one of his former clubs.

And Conway said: “I can’t remember playing against one of my previous teams before so it will be interesting.”
