BLACKBURN Rovers record appearance holder Derek Fazackerley has joined League Two outfit Oxford United as assistant head coach.

Fazackerley, who made 674 appearances at Ewood Park, will work alongside former Rovers manager Michael Appleton at the Kassam Stadium.

Appleton was appointed head coach of Oxford earlier this summer – his first role since leaving Rovers in March 2013.

Fazackerley, 62, has previously held coaching positions at Rovers, Huddersfield Town, Leicester City and Birmingham City as well as a successful spell as assistant manager to Kevin Keegan at Newcastle United in the early 1990s.

Fazackerley is expected to start his role today.
