BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer declared himself satisfied after his side ran out 4-0 winners at AFC Telford United yesterday in their first friendly of the summer.

Second-half goals from transfer-listed striker Leon Best, Ruben Rochina (2) and youngster Jack O’Connell fired Rovers to an emphatic victory over their non-league opponents.

But what was equally pleasing to Bowyer, who fielded two entirely different teams in each half, was that no injuries were picked up ahead of the warm-weather training camp in Portugal.

He said: “The main objective was to give everybody 45 minutes.

“It’s a fantastic set-up here and it was good workout for us.

“It was important that we came through it unscathed and there no injuries so we were happy with that.

“You saw the quality in depth we have in the squad, with Besty and Ruben scoring, and the young lads got their opportunity too and put their case forward.

“It was just about getting our timings right and our fitness levels up. That’s been achieved and we’re delighted with that.”

Tommy Spurr missed out with a groin injury, Jason Lowe and Chris Brown did not travel after complaining of soreness, while Paul Robinson and Corry Evans were back at Brockhall doing fitness work.

New signing Alex Baptiste, who joined the club on a season-long from Bolton Wanderers on Friday night, and David Dunn and Markus Olsson, who penned new one-year contracts earlier in the day, also did not feature.

But they will all be on the plane bound for the Algarve tomorrow where Rovers will spend a week training before returning to England to prepare for their next friendly, away to Accrington Stanley on Wednesday, July 23 (7.45pm).

Rovers U21s, meanwhile, lost 2-1 at Clitheroe yesterday.
