ROSS McCormack going to Fulham for £11m really sets the benchmark for Blackburn Rovers if they ever have to sell Jordan Rhodes.

Don’t get me wrong, if Jordan or Ross were not British I think you could get them for around £5m.

But British players come at a premium, especially ones who guarantee you 20 goals in the Championship, and should a bid ever come in for Jordan, Blackburn should be looking for £11-12m because that’s what Ross has gone for.

Luckily there does not appear to have been a bid for Jordan and let’s hope that remains the case.

But I still don’t understand speculation that he wants a new contract.

He signed a five-year deal when he joined the club and it still has three years to run.

He should fulfil that until at least the final 18 months, when negotiations should start about a new one.

But in this day and age you can have a long time left on your contract and agents will be batting away at clubs asking for their client to be given a new deal for X amount of money.

Jordan has stated he’s happy at Blackburn and it’s only if he ever becomes unhappy that they may look to move him on.

But even then he’s going to have an £11-£12m price tag around his neck and it will be up to someone to pay that.

Here’s hoping that never happens and he scores another 20 goals plus for Blackburn this season.

Meanwhile, I’m running my G8 Soccer School behind Salesbury Memorial Hall on August 18-22 and August 25-29, from 9.30am and 3.30pm each day for children aged 8-13.

We have an early bird offer which runs out after the World Cup final on Sunday.
