BLACKBURN Rovers’ big Championship opener at home to Cardiff City has been brought forward to Friday, August 8 (7.45pm) after it was selected for live television coverage.

The Ewood Park clash, originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 9 at 3pm, will be shown on Sky Sports and it will be the first match in the entire Football League season.

Sky Sports will be broadcasting two further live Championship games over the opening weekend, Fulham's trip to Ipswich Town on Saturday, August 9 (5.15pm) and League One champions Wolves' home encounter with Norwich City on Sunday, August 10 (4pm).

Norwich, Fulham and Cardiff came down from the Premier League last season.

It is the second season in a row that Rovers' first match of the campaign has been shown live after Sky televised their 2013-14 opener away to Derby County.

Rubbish decision SKY!
This totally spoils the traditional sunny saturday afternoon start to the season and will probably have an effect on the attendance and atmosphere. Of course we will still win and be clear at the top of the table but still a poor decision.

I'm all for tradition but I also don't see a huge problem with our opening game being televised either. We've effectively been given the honour of kicking-off the 2014/15 football season, and what better way to show the rest of the league what we can do than live on TV where every other Championship side can look on and see that we're a team to be reckoned with?

I agree with FR that it may have an affect on the attendance, (although it's just one game.) Some Cardiff fans won't relish having to finish work early, rush up to Blackburn, watch Conway and Gestede 'return' to haunt them, then trek all the way back home again. However, surely that would only improve the atmosphere from Rovers' perspective as there'll be less vocal support from the visiting team.

Your going to have to get a better team than last season. The team to be reckoned with, will be the Venkeys and a couple of chickens. People will watch sky that day just for a laugh.

What's the matter, Crazy Ralph, can't remember the password for your Super_Clarets account?

It's not 'getting wood', it's just being happy that we're obviously good enough to be considered for the first live game of the season. If we were as awful as you like to think we are, Sky would've chosen another fixture. It's not as if it's a derby game.

If tiny things please tiny minds you must be really thrilled with yourself...

As another poster has pointed out, it seems hypocritical to be complaining about Sky covering your game, when a few season's back you were all happy to take Sky money then.

As to the game itself, the Championship can't really be judged until AT LEAST 10 games in, but playing a newly relegated team will give you a chance to show if you do have play off ambitions.

My thoughts exactly.... Can't see why we won't have a lot of supporters down on a Friday night, fair enough it's on TV, but still shouldn't massively effect attendance... Where as you pointed out with Cardiff, a 3 1/2 hour drive means at the very latest a 4pm set off, Friday traffic, call that 2pm... Can see it being a very noisy game, but it will be just Rovers fans!

The issue isn`t SKY covering the game, that`s just part of football now.

Its just the fact that SKY can switch the day of the game so easily. They have spoiled for me anyway what is always one of the most eagerly anticipated and exciting days of the season.

Anything is possible until that first ball is kicked at 3 pm on an August Saturday afternoon. We all start the new season on a level playing field with the same points and everyone can dream of what the season could hold for their club, until the reality of how good or bad your teams results are then anything is possible.

SKY are taking away that opening day magic and with it yet another traditional footballing special moment.

Dewch Ar Chi Gleision!
What a plank you are.
Sky couldn't give flying toss about no-dad FC, they're interested in seeing how Cardiff get on in their first game back in the championship.
Of course they're interested in how the relegated teams get on, but ours is the fixture they chose to kick-off the season, as opposed to Wolves-Norwich or Ipswich-Fulham, even Wigan-Reading or Millwall-Leeds (for obvious reasons). I'm only making an observation, it's not as if I'm suggesting we have an open top parade because if it.

I agree with FR that it may have an affect on the attendance, (although it's just one game.) Some Cardiff fans won't relish having to finish work early, rush up to Blackburn, watch Conway and Gestede 'return' to haunt them, then trek all the way back home again.
Let's put it this way, true Rovers fans will be there supporting the club, there rest will be closet dingles hoping we lose.

We will be there.

BTW, I still have until the end of June to buy our Season Tickets, off down to Ewood tomorrow in plenty of time, unlike the Burnley knobheads who had to pay their exorbitant rip off prices in January last season.

Never mind; your fat cat directors are more than happy to bank your hard earned, new Merc's each perhaps? All at Burnley fans expenses of course.

Do you realise how thick you sound on here sometimes? Not to mention obsessed! You really do need to concentrate more in your Maths/English lessons and working towards your GCSE's, otherwise you are going to be screwed once mummy and daddy aren't there to support you....
