Etuhu: I’ve got unfinished business at Rovers

This Is Lancashire: Etuhu: I’ve got unfinished business at Rovers Etuhu: I’ve got unfinished business at Rovers

BLACKBURN Rovers misfit Dickson Etuhu insists he has unfinished business at the club.

The injury-plagued midfielder has made a meager 24 appearances for Rovers since his big money move from Fulham in August 2012 with just three coming in the last 18 months.

But having recovered from the hamstring strain which ruled him out of the final five games of the campaign he is determined to come back stronger in pre-season and prove to skeptical supporters he can still cut it in the Championship.

Etuhu said: “Even when I signed, I was not fit.

“I had missed a pre-season as I wanted to leave Fulham. I have never been myself and never been fit.

“The fans have only seen 50 per cent of me as a player. I am just hoping I can have a full pre-season and then the fans will get to see my qualities.

“I have played for a few teams but this is the one club I have not left my mark and before I leave this place, I have got to do that.

“I have business here I need to deal with and I am looking forward to doing that next year.”

Whether Etuhu gets his wish remains to be seen.

As one of Rovers’ biggest earners it is almost certain the club would allow the Nigeria international to leave this summer if there are any takers.

But when Etuhu was fit this season he was given a chance by Gary Bowyer.

The Rovers boss brought the 31-year-old, after a year on the sidelines with a knee injury, off the bench in November’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

But disaster struck when Etuhu, who gave away a penalty and initially looked off the pace against the Seagulls, sustained ankle-ligament damage in an accidental training ground clash with Leon Best.

“I had trained for three or four weeks and came on early, which I was not supposed to do,” said Etuhu, who has two years left on the four-year contract he penned after his £1.5million transfer from Fulham.

“But I had to come on early because Willo (Lee Williamson) got injured. I got stronger as the game wore on and I thought I had done some good stuff.

“Then the next week, on the Tuesday, I injured my ankle. I was really down and the gaffer gave me some time to go and clear my head.”

After returning to Brockhall Etuhu worked hard to overcome his latest setback and made cameo appearances as Rovers beat Ipswich Town and then QPR at Ewood Park at the start of April to keep their play-off hopes alive.

But a hamstring strain picked up in the latter match meant he finished the season on the sidelines as Bowyer’s side missed out on a top-six spot by two points.

“I just want to start helping the boys,” said Etuhu.

“We have got a young team. The gaffer knows what he is doing here. He has got a vision.

“It would be great to get back in the Premier League. That’s the dream.”

If nobody else wants him, a fully fit and positive Etuhu could be an asset . He has experience which could be valuable next season as we compete on three fronts.

Another waste of space from the Kean and Shabby Minge school of excellence. It's deals like this, that could have long lasting implications for this football club.

It's hardly surprising that he doesn't want to leave, is it? Who else in their right minds, will give him the enormous wages he's on here?

I wish the best of luck to anyone in the blue and white halves but it's going to take an almighty turnaround from Mr Etuhu. As far as I can see, our first choice midfield 4 are going to be one of the best in the league next season. In spite of what he has taken from our club, I still like the guy. I think it's terrible that some fans insist on booing him, surely that's only going to encourage him to take more and give less.

There certainly aren't going to be any takers so I'm sure he'll get another chance at some point. To be fair to him, I really don't think he's in the same category as Leon Best. I get the impression that Rovers would rather have Best just sat at home twiddling his thumbs and watching his bank balance grow than set foot on the training pitch.

It's a good, positive article from a player who had a couple of decent cameo's towards the end of the season, he gives his reasons, or excuses, for being out of the frame for so long, he talks about the positive aspects of last season and how he wants to be part of it next season.

At the end of the day he's a Rovers player for the next couple of years and if GB can dispel the negativity surrounding him, get him and keep him fit, it will be a massive bonus because whatever his history with us is he is a class player.

If he is playing regularly, and performing as he can, he (and Rovers) will have him in the shop window and therefore there is more of a chance that a bigger club could make an offer that he (and Rovers) can't ignore.

Who knows, that could be the January transfer window and we could have Rovers fans bemoaning the fact he has gone.

Funny old game, football.

Unfortunately he has all the cards stacked in his favour.

Knee ankle hamstring does not bode well in terms of keeping clear of injury.

when he did arrive and play a few games he showed flashes of abilty however was not a box to box midfielder.

We are in a huge predicament with him because I dont think aling with Varney thst they wull get much cinsistent game tume and dont have the youth and fitness sharpness as substitutes ti make a sugnificant contribution if and when they wiuld come on

training fitness will nit keep them match fit and if Etuhu was to come on wiuld pribably pull up with a pulled hamstring anyway.

Dunn usualky susceptuble to calf tears whuch take months to get over.

For me we would;

Not sign Varney
Not retain Dunn
Not retain Ollson
Not retain Etuhu ( however this is out of our hands if he has 2 years left on his cintract)

Captain Dreckley says...

Unfinished business or not he is on the transfer list and with a midfield pairingof Cairney and Evans he really hasn't a chance. Etuhu is a throwback tothe shebby era that is long gone thankfully and can offer very little to the quality we have in midfield. As for the supposed transfer ban, let's strengthen the team this summer in central defence and at right back and complete a squad for the season as we arnt too far away. What I really cannot understandis what transfer ban is effecting the dingles???? This cash rich club have waited till the playoffs before they start building a team for the premier league??? Still, the dingles know what's coming, a total lack of investment yet again and certain relegation and humiliation. What an embarrassment of a football club, the only team in the premiership with wooden seats, shameful

In other words 'I will never ever get the kind of money that these clowns are paying me every week, so I definitely need to stay and milk them for every last penny'.

Over £7 million in wages for 24 appearances is just hilarious.
