BLACKBURN Rovers midfielder Corry Evans has been named in the Northern Ireland squad for a friendly against England’s World Cup Group D opponents Uruguay.

Evans, who has won 21 caps for his country, is part of a 22-strong squad for the friendlies with Uruguay and Chile.

The midfielder missed a chunk of last season after picking up an ankle injury against Israel while on international duty in October.

Michael O’Neill’s men face Luis Suarez and Co on Friday, May 30, in Montevideo before travelling to Valparaiso to take on Chile on Wednesday, June 4.

Burnley defender Danny Lafferty is also in the squad along with Chris Baird, who is currently without a club after his short-term deal with the Clarets ended.

Huddersfield’s Burnley-born midfielder Oliver Norwood is also included along with former Clarets striker Martin Paterson, who is also with the Terriers.

Northern Ireland begin their Euro 2016 qualifiers in September when they visit Hungary.

They also face Greece and Romania in their qualifying group.
