Bowyer to discuss plans with ace Rochina
BLACKBURN Rovers manager Gary Bowyer plans to hold talks with Ruben Rochina after he plays the final match of his successful loan spell at Rayo Vallecano this weekend.
Rayo were rooted in the relegation places when Rochina arrived back in Spain on January 20.
But since then the former Barcelona starlet has scored three goals in 16 appearances to help the Madrid-based outfit stage a remarkable revival which means they go into their last game of the La Liga campaign at home to Getafe on Sunday safe from the drop.
Bowyer has kept in regular contact with Rochina and has even been out to see to him in action.
He is keeping the door open for the 23-year-old attacker to return to Rovers next season.
But Bowyer also accepts the chance to remain in his homeland and play first-team football may prove tempting for Rochina.
“We’ll have to have a chat and see what he wants to do,” said Bowyer.
“I know he wants to play football and I understand that. He’s away from home, too, so it becomes even harder when you’re not playing.
“But he’s someone who can win you a game so we will have to sit down and have a chat.”
FROM BACK PAGE Rochina, who has one year remaining on the Rovers contract he signed after joining from Barcelona B in January 2011, began the season in Bowyer’s starting line-up.
But he spent three months on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder in the opening day 1-1 draw at Derby County and he failed to regain his place after battling back to full fitness.
Rochina started just one game – the 3-2 home defeat to Birmingham City – and came off the bench in three others before making the move to Rayo.
Bowyer said: “Right up until he did his shoulder at Derby he was playing some fantastic football.
“I wasn’t surprised as I’ve known Ruben for a long time now.
“I’ve managed him in the reserves, when he first arrived at the club, and he was too good for the reserves and he single-handedly won us our league.
“I know what type of player he is and it is case of waiting for Ruben to finish his season with Rayo Vallecano and then see what that brings.”
Rochina’s loan to Rayo came with a view to making the move permanent.
But he has since been linked with their La Liga rivals Real Sociedad.
Rochina is one of eight senior players Rovers have had out on loan.
