FLASHBACK: Chung-Yong Lee nets dramatic late winner for Bolton Wanderers in FA Cup

WANDERERS have crossed swords with Birmingham City on 119 occasions – but it’s a safe bet that none provided the excitement of one magical day at St Andrew’s on March 12, 2011.
Chung-Yong Lee’s dramatic last-minute winner booked a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup at Wembley.
Owen Coyle’s men had twice let the lead slip at St Andrew’s before the substitute headed home to send the 4,339-strong travelling support wild. Johan Elmander’s well-taken opener was cancelled out by Cameron Jerome before Kevin Davies restored Bolton’s advantage from the penalty spot. But the quarter-final tie looked to be heading for a replay when Kevin Phillips looped a shot over Jussi Jaaskelainen, who was playing his 500th game for the club.
But Davies put a winner on a plate for Lee to keep alive the dream of a first FA Cup final appearance since Nat Lofthouse helped defeat Manchester United in 1958. Of course, history tells us that things did not go according to plan against Stoke City in the semi-final.
But Wanderers fans will always have St Andrew’s to remember – maybe the last time it really all went right for the Whites.
