We have four cup finals, says Blackburn Rovers midfielder Lowe

BLACKBURN Rovers must treat every match between now and the end of the season as a cup final if they are to make one last desperate push for the play-offs.

That is the verdict of fired-up midfielder Jason Lowe ahead of today’s visit of relegation-threatened Yeovil to Ewood Park.

Lowe knows that Rovers realistically need to take maximum points from their final four games of the campaign if they are going to gatecrash the top six.

And that is why the 23-year-old firmly believes they must prepare for each match as if there is a prize at stake.

Lowe said: “The season is absolutely not over. Obviously we’d prefer to be at the top of league but if somebody had said this time last year we would have four games left and four points to make up, we would have taken that.

“We are going to be confident and we’re going to give it everything we’ve got.

“We’ve got four big, big games, four cup finals, and we’ve got to go into every single one of them with the mentality of winning and hopefully we can do that.

“If we can take care of our own business then anything can happen.”

Lowe reckons it will be a mentality shared by Rovers’ next three opponents as Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic, like Yeovil, face a scrap for survival.

The England U21s international said: “Like us they are teams playing with a lot at stake.

“We know Yeovil are not going to come here and roll over.

“It’s going to be a fight and we’re going to have to dig in and put in a good performance to get the win.”

Rovers go into today’s penultimate home match of the season four points behind sixth-placed Reading.

But the gap to the Royals would be two points had Rovers not thrown away a two-goal lead in last weekend’s 3-3 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

It was the sixth time in 2014 that Rovers have failed to secure three points after being in a winning position.

Lowe said: “I don’t think many teams, if any, have cut us open.

“We’ve been our own biggest faults at times this year.

“Is it inexperience? I don’t know.

“If you look at Sheffield Wednesday and where their play (for their equaliser) came from, then possibly.

“But we still should have dealt with the long ball. We blocked it, it pinballed off my leg, went back into the mix and obviously the lad finished it.

“These things can happen but the fact they have happened time and again means we need to address them and learn from them very, very quickly and move on.”

Lets take it one game at a time, worry about today, get the three points, look how everyone else has done, re-evaluate for the next game.

Simple, worry about next season, FFP and everything else when the final whistle blows on the Wigan game.

Jason, i would have a little more confidence in you (Rovers) if you even looked like you could string a run of wins together....unfortun
ately you don't.

how ever we go into todays game knowing what needs to be done, if you don't then it's down to you lot.....the fans have done their bit in so much has supporting you even with some pathetic performances and now it's over to you.

failure to take all three points today would seal our championship fate for another season....but failure to take all three points would leave Gary and Co with some explaining to do.....seriously!, we should be beating side like Yeovil with our eye's shut....

so Gary and the lads....show us that you mean business....show us you have heart!.....i've criticized you and praised you over this season, now you have the remaining games to really prove yourselves...to prove you have the right to wear the blue and white halves....

spot on – All these “happy clappers” have always said they are too busy to come to Ewood cos they run 100+ businesses, well they wernt too busy to come to east Lancs to meet the queen!!

They even try to employ someone to "bridge the gap" with fans rather than having the honesty & courage to do it themselves - they won't even meet selected small contingants of fans groups - very poor and shows that in reality they have learned very little over the past 3 years and care even less, no matter what the happy clappers will have you believe.

Personally I do not want Venkys at the game, I want everybody in the ground focused on supporting the team and winning the match.

The team do not need the distraction of a bunch of malcontents chanting at the owners and frankly do you really think they are going to start listening to you now ?

I have said from the start that they are ignorant and arrogant when it comes to how to run a football club, the best thing they can do is be silent and invisible, their presence brings nothing but negatives to the game.

I ve been saying Out with the Cowboys and Indians for some time - they dont turn up like other foreign club owners and they wont spend any real cash on good championship/premier
ship players, the future is still not looking good even though some cranks on here like greengrocer, angry and owd nick think it does and keep saying looking forward to next season - will just be another one of no direction/inconsiste
ncy under the current Management. As for the headline of Lowe saying the next four games being cup finals and must wins - well we never seem to win must wins or others for that fact. 15 wins out of 42 played!!

Calm down dd!! I agree with some of your comments but after the period we've been through, we do need some stability and GB has given us that. He is doing his best to get rid of the lazy high earners and he has brought in some really promising lads - but all this takes time. Afraid I'm still on the fence with the manager though, he can't replicate all his good work off the pitch when the boys cross over that line on match day. Not sure if he is able to change his tactical spots but he has to for me to get anywhere near play-offs next season. I would love to see a more positive approach from him and players in their rightful positions to do that, How long will it be before he puts Cairney in the middle and sorts KIng out mentally, on form and I repeat on form, no full-back can live with him. So come on GB, take each match remaining by the scuff of the neck and see where that takes us.

Thanks Greenie, my thoughts exactly. The last thing we need at the moment is a negative atmosphere affecting the players.

I am going down this afternoon to support the team and the club, I have no interest in Venky's whatsoever and am quite happy that they won't be there.

But I do agree with cranky and also several others on Twitter today, Venky's have missed yet another golden opportunity to put things right by apologising at Ewood and BEFORE the game and state their intentions for the future, even if they weren't going to stay for the game.

By their arrogance and ignorance they allow their detractors to fester away in the background, that isn't good for the club, the fans or even them.

It is somewhat galling to see an honour bestowed on the club being usurped by the f'wits from India that was rightfully earned by Jack Walker.

Dumb and dumber would have taken the club the way of Blackburn Olympic had they managed to get their hands on it before the magic of the Walker era. Never mind training down Pleasington, the club eould be playing all of it's Sunday League fixtures down there.

On a slighty more tangible note: is Jason Lowe really expressing concern that we won't be able to turn Yoevil over on our own patch but that the playoffs and the Premiership are a realistic proposition?

Whereas the last three seasons have been truly dismal to endure as a Rovers fan, the lack of attacking football and tactical nous have really disappointing this season.

Incest Each Sunday says...

This season has seen some stability return to the club yet there are still some Rovers fans asking for Venky's to turn up and apologise. The fact that they've stayed away has clearly had a positive effect on the club and I, like most Rovers fans I've spoken to week-in, week-out, on the terraces, am quite happy for them to continue to leave the day-to-day running of the club to the people who've done a great job this season.

Besides, even if Madame Desai walked into the centre circle before kick-off, sank to her knees and gave a heart-felt grovelling apology, it still wouldn't be good enough for the likes of deluded dave et al. For most of those fans there will be no more real support for the club until Venky's have gone. Even more unfortunate is the fact that they don't see that the only ones suffering because of this stance is themselves.

As for Lowe's assessment of our next four games, he's spot on, (although I also agree with owd nick that they should only be looking to the next game and re-evaluate after that.) It's not over until the stereotypical Burnley housewife sings, and even if we fail to make the play-offs it should still be considered a decent season in comparison to the farce that was last season.

As I was saying; the lack of attacking football and tactical nous have been really disappointing this season.

Unfortunately, I am unable to join the glass-half-full clappers who console themselves with the positive that the Venkys haven't dumped us quite as low as they might have. However, whilst some will be steadfastly ignoring the portents and dreaming of promotion, the more likely scenario will be a struggle against relegation. Walker era squads had better reserve sides than what the club now puts out as the first team.

The fare has been so bad this season, apart from the obvious low point it is difficult to nominate which has been the mist dire home game. Perhaps an inability to beat lowly Yoevil on our own patch just about edges it. Although they might have beaten us like the mighty Bournemouth.

Sorry but my glass isn't being filled with the keanesque spin of three cup-finals and "more twists and turns to come". This Rovers side has twisted and busted already having wasted several chances over the past weeks to grab a place in the play-offs.
