INCENSED Gary Bowyer has promised an instant reaction in Good Friday’s home clash with Yeovil Town after Blackburn Rovers blew the chance to move within two points of the play-off places.

Bowyer delivered a short and sharp post-match team talk after Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Sheffield Wednesday in which he let his players know that their performance had not been up to scratch.

Rovers threw away a two-goal lead at an emotionally charged Hillsborough to leave their hopes of finishing in the top six hanging by a thread.

Bowyer knows that only four wins from the final four can happen in this Championship. But there will be a reaction from our lot on Friday.

“There’s four games to go and four games to win – it’s as simple that.

“But we can’t keep scoring goals and defending like we did.

“If we do keep scoring goals and stop giving silly goals we might give ourselves half a chance.”

It was the fifth time this season that Rovers have missed the opportunity to make it three straight league wins in a row for the first time in a single campaign since January 2008.

And Bowyer, who also lamented his side’s inability to take the chances that came their way when they were 3-1 up, admitted they had no-one else to blame.

He said: “You can’t keep coming away from home like we do, scoring three goals and go away with only one point.

“It is nobody else’s fault today except ourselves. I think against Millwall and Watford we had justification that it was out of our hands with the penalty decisions that were given but today it has been totally our own doing.

“We’ve had enough chances in the second half to put the game to bed and then our defending, especially in the last minute of the game, was not good enough.

“We were trying to score another goal instead of being professional and seeing the game out.

“At both ends of the pitch we’ve not been good enough today.”

Asked whether his players were as angry as him, Bowyer said: “I don’t know, I’ve not hung around long enough to see.”

Tenth-placed Rovers, who are unbeaten in eight games, finds themselves four points off sixth position.

But that gap will stretch to six points if Reading win at home to table-topping Leicester City tonight.

Midfielder David Dunn missed out against the Owls with a calf strain but Rovers are hopeful he will be fit to face second-from-bottom Yeovil.
