WANDERERS manager Dougie Freedman believes the mental approach of his players from the first whistle will be integral to getting victory against struggling Barnsley.
Freedman was full of praise for his team’s electric start at Doncaster that saw them go two goals up inside the first 15 minutes.
And while he has been happy with similarly good starts in the way of possession on home soil, he wants them to turn that into goals and look to muzzle the Tykes early today.
The Scot told The Bolton News: “The start was so good and that was what won us the game at Doncaster.
“If anything I was disappointed we did not score even more.
“It shows how far we have come in terms of our mental approach to games.
“The way we set the tone made me proud of the lads.
“We have worked very hard on the training ground on that part of our game.
“I think our starts at home have generally been good this season looking back to the Wigan and Burnley games.
“It has been killing teams off that has been a problem when we go a goal up.
“We need to keep on and that eases jitters in the crowd.
“We had it against Blackburn – maybe that was because it was a derby match and the fans were right up for it throughout.
“But we have to keep on trying to get that second goal because it worked for us the other night.”
