We’re going to miss Joe Mason, admits Bolton Wanderers defender David Wheater
DEFENDER David Wheater believes it will be a big miss for Wanderers when Saturday’s match-winner Joe Mason returns to parent club Cardiff City next week.
The 22-year-old heads back to South Wales when his second spell at the Reebok ends after Saturday’s home clash with Barnsley. During his split shift in Lancashire, he has netted five goals – including Saturday’s stunner at Huddersfield in the 1-0 win.
And Wheater has been impressed by his impact. He said: “Joe is a tough customer for teams – I know that from training against him.
“He’s so strong for his height and he can finish as he showed again on Saturday.
“I think that’s something like five goals for us so that shows he knows where the goal is.
“It was a fantastic finish from Joe.
“He had not long been on but he was ready for that chance and took it brilliantly.
“It will be a miss for us when he goes back to Cardiff.” Whites boss Freedman agrees with Wheater but accepts that what happens when you dea in the loan market.
He added: “Unfortunately, young Joe goes back after the Barnsley game so he only has two games left.
“But you know that when you get loans in they have to go back at some point.”
Meanwhile, Freedman is hopeful Mark Davies may be in the travelling squad for the game at Doncaster tomorrow. Davies was not involved at Huddersfield and the boss explained his absence.
He said: “Mark Davies has got a little groin problem.
“He was in training very early on Saturday morning but we just couldn’t risk it.”
