Shebby Singh closer to Blackburn Rovers exit

This Is Lancashire: Shebby Singh Shebby Singh

SHEBBY Singh’s days at Blackburn Rovers appear to be numbered with the club's global advisor taking a new job in Malaysia.

Singh, who has not been seen at Rovers since the end of last season, has been named team observer of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

And with his Ewood Park contract expiring in September it seems highly unlikely he will have any future involvment in the running of Rovers.

However, the club would not comment on whether it is continuing to pay Singh his reported annual six-figure salary.

In his new role with JDT, the 53-year-old, who played for the Malaysia Super League outfit in the 1980s, will assist new new manager Bojan Hodak and existing chief coach Cesar Ferrando Jimenez.

Singh was appointed as Rovers’ global advisor by owners Venky’s in June 2012.

In the months immediately after his arrival the club, fresh from relegation from the Premier League, went on an extravagant spending spree.

Rovers spent millions of pounds on transfer and agents’ fees in deals for big-name players like Danny Murphy, Nuno Gomes, Leon Best and Dickson Etuhu as well as five Portuguese unknowns.

Rovers also had to pay out millions of pounds in compensation to the three managers they parted company with during the disastrous 2012-13 campaign, for which they posted a £36.5m loss.

But since Gary Bowyer took over as Rovers boss in May Singh has played no part in the running of Rovers.

Instead he returned to his work as a football pundit on Malaysian television.

Speaking in December Singh said: “I haven’t been involved with the club at all this season.

“I’ve been back in Malaysia since August because I have some business concerns that I need to look after.

“On top of that I want to spend time with my family and especially my son who just had ACL surgery.

“My bosses (Venky’s) are aware of my absence.

“I admit that the past year and a half haven’t been the best.

“I went to Blackburn Rovers to become their global advisor – and I’m still their global advisor – and it was a very challenging time for me.

“But I like to think the worst is over and things are going to pick up from now on.”

It would be brilliant news once Shabby Shebby's exit from Ewood is confirmed.

I used to live and work in Malaysia for quite a number of years before returning to London and I remember seeing Shebby as a football pundit on television there. He was also the laughing stock of many out there as he just 'talked too much' and thinks he knows much better than the likes of the professional footballers we have here when he knows NOTHING.

When Shebby came to Rovers, it was like a nightmare as he did not have a clue who he was signing and hardly any of those players even made the first team!

Well done to GB once again for stabilising the club and long may he be our Manager and establish himself at Rovers.

Shebby Singh is contracted as Global Advisor to Blackburn Rovers.

His contract to September 2014 was reported to be worth £800,000 a year.

Blackburn Rovers have not paid off or in anyway renegotiated his contract.

Blackburn Rovers are therefore STILL paying Shebby Singh £800,000 a year!

Hilarious mis-management.

can;t say he has or will be missed. the owners have finally seen or been shown the light that his position was damaging and not needed the fact he has still been paid for being 1,000's of miles away from Blackburn is another poor management decison by the owners. all or most of the players that he was involved in signing have left or are on the outside of the first team for one reason or another. big credit has to go to GB and DS for convincing the owners that Shebby's role is no longer required Manger>MD>Owners thats the way this club was run succesfully by John Williams and Tom Finn for many years after Jack Walker died and the way it should be run. the manager should have the say on who should be in the team and in the club. its worries me that we have wasted millions on Shebbys ideas on players and as result in agents fees, wages and contract terminations, when it could of been spent on strengthing the existing structures and could of kept us in the Premier League

Not to the disappointment of this Hill-Monlkey Harwoodsblue. This man is almost certainly up to his neck in Asset Price Fixing given the value in and out of the players he signed, and the contracts with agents fees. I suspect you'll be suing this weasel some time soon.

Now they have forced Shebby out also due to again intimidation by tramps who live in caravans and want to move into Trampwood Park. Come on F.A grow a pair and punish these fans. An away ban will not work try introducing birching in front of the other future tramps to deter these thugs of future disturbances.

Singh isn't paid by Blackburn Rovers. He's paid by Venkys to 'advise' them. He has never held a job at the football club.

Glad to see the back of him. I think all Rovers fans need to remember that it was the arrival of Shebby that sparked Steve Kean's downfall. Had it not been for Shebby then Kean could well still be here!

So thank you Shebby for helping to bring down Kean's regime after two years where I had lost hope and for allegedly bringing in Jordan Rhodes, but other than that you're best off in Malaysia.

Don't remind us LP, he was an absolute disaster and cost us so much.

I thought Shebby was long gone and had no idea he was still on the payroll so to speak. Love the reporting of his 6 figure salary - anywhere between 100,000 and 999,999 then.
Good news for you that he is on his way and looking like you are managing to get your house in some sort of shape.
Others have posted about him being crooked, the deals are shocking and how anyone can get away with it is farcical.

Hi Mac
Joking apart this guy was a joke, he just hit the jackpot at the right time because he knew the Venkys, he and Kean certainly made a bob or two out of our owners, still the Venkys keep paying the money out and things are changing (slowly) for the better, may be we can't get up this year but you guys have a good chance, looking forward to next week especially if we both get three points this weekend, see you Sunday.

Surprised at you RobH20...Didn't we buy our trophies just like Chelsea and Man City and Arsenal did? Before that, Liverpool and Man Utd.
Isn't it true that the teams with the best players usually win all the silverware? These players have to be bought and we were fortunate enough to have an owner, no fan, with money like all the above.
It seems it's all right for everyone else but when Blackburn won it, we "bought it"

Yes Stepp, the hurt and pain is obviously still there even after all these years.
If Burnley had an owner with money who came in tomorrow and funded a Premier League triumph for them, then I guess that would be OK.

I take it the self righteous Burnley folk simply wouldn't accept a self made millionaire supporter that wanted to invest his hard earned millions into the club he loved? What a load of absolute tosh - and you know it.

Even before Jacks investment it was already well over a decade since you'd managed to win a derby because you were 2 Divisions lower pal... or does that not count in Dingland?

The way you lot pap on you'd think Burnley were dominating the derby rivalry before Jack invested, when infact nothing could be further from the truth.

Hi Harwood Blue. "Bought them" is the wrong phrase. I usually throw that for fun an folk that bang on about "how many trophies have you won" and 35 years banner to wind them up.

I'll explain. When a market with a finite number of companies take part (I know there's relegation from tier four of the football league but it barely makes a ripple) like Football, it is vital that this self-sealed market operates with what is earned as a consequence of the footprint of the club. If you "chop in" vast sums that would not have been available from normal trading, the market becomes skewed and distorted. The ripple effect passes out over the pond. It becomes a tsunami and all those capable have to copy or die.

That's whats happened to football. Now all the biggest clubs do this, with the exception of Man Utd (various technical reasons). The fallout is FFP put in pale to try to act as a barrier. It will fail under the weight of coming legal challenges.

To long to bang about it here just now. Suffice it to say you didm't buy it. You skewed it towards you!

digitusjonfred, I don't want to spoil your evening or anything. But if I may ask a question or two; when you had no money to speak of, you didn't win the league in the previous 81 years. You hd a wealthy backer, then you won it. Since the Walker family departed, what have you won since, in a a state of "no money"? (I know Venky are rich, but actual financial commitment like dear old uncle Jack put up). The answer is you've won nothing, sadly.

By the way, you are quite correct to say that you are big club, totally agree; three titles (two won legit! :) ) 6 FA Cups etc. A great credit to you.

I'll get lost now!

Shebby may not have been a success at Blackburn but I think we should all congratulate him for at least trying to do his best.

Unlike a lot of so called "supporters" who come on here and just bad mouth the club, Shebby actually tried to do his best or Blackburn. He got involved in the nitty gritty and made some tough decisions, decisions that needed to be made. He's a true professional with integrity and honour - more than can be said for a lot of the commentators on here.

So farewell Shebby and good luck. The TRUE Blackburn Rovers supporters amongst us wish you all the best in your future career.

Which is bound to be a success.
