YOUNG Spanish goalkeeper David Raya has signed his first professional contract with Blackburn Rovers.

The 18-year-old, who joined Rovers two years ago from Barcelona-based club Cornella, has put pen to paper on what the club describe as a ‘long-term deal’.

Raya said: “I’m very happy because it is a chance to carry on my career.

“It is a good achievement for me and my family, I’ve been working hard every day for this.

“I’ve been here two years so it was an easy decision to make, it is a dream.”

Raya has yet to make a first-team appearance for Rovers but he was part of Gary Bowyer’s senior squad when he accompanied them on the pre-season trip to Portugal.

Raya, who has now established himself in Eric Kinder’s U21s set-up, said: “I would be happy to play for the first team, it would be a proud moment.”

Rovers U21s welcome Newcastle United U21s to Ewood Park on Monday (7pm).
