Bowyer: Promotion race is far from run yet

ROVERS boss Gary Bowyer believes it is too early to think about promotion places, despite the season entering its final stretch.

Rovers visit sixth placed Reading this afternoon knowing a win will cut the gap between themselves and the play off places to four points.

And, with the top five sides in the Championship boasting a five point buffer to the rest, it appears that only one top six spot is up for grabs.

But Bowyer doesn't see it that way, believing a host of sides are still in contention.

He said: “Anything can happen in this division. You look at Bolton’s run last season to miss out narrowly on goal difference.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if someone came out of the pack again. I think it is far too early to say.

“Leeds have put a couple of wins together, Sheffield Wednesday have had a fantastic run recently, everybody is in it.

“It is about picking up points between now and the end of the season. We have 48 points to play for and we have got to try and get as many as as we can.”

Bowyer knows finding consistency is the key to Rovers’ play off ambitions and hopes to continue a run that has seen them lose just one league game in their past seven, against a Royals side he believes will be in the shake-up.

He added: “It is a game that we are going out and trying to win. Reading will want a win to keep their run going and we want to win to keep our run going.

“For me they are a Premiership outfit. They came down last season and they have a top manager. They proved that by going and winning at QPR so convincingly. But we are going into the game full of confidence and looking forward to it.”

Rovers have a game in hand on six of the nine sides above them, with that fixture against Brighton, due to be played on Tuesday before being postponed because of the Seagulls’ FA Cup tie with Hull going to a replay.

Although that paints a distorted picture of the table, Bowyer would rather have played a game more and be three points better off.

“It is points on the board for me,” he said. “That is the main thing. People can say that you have a couple of games in hand but you have still got to win.”

Not a lot you can say now, except go for it. no option but to twist. I think we will need about 2/3 of the 48 points so it is a tall order
But...the fat lady aint singing yet
Come on Team GB

I agree, now is the time to go for it. Everybody else will be, you won't see any team above us play for a draw. If we go for it every game and come up short, then at least we've gone for it. I personally wrote the season off a couple of weeks ago because I think we would get battered in the play offs if we made it by forest or derby. But I've been wrong before and quite simply I'm rovers till I die so let's surprise everyone and make me look stupid!

Promotion race not over?
It could be by 5 o'clock tonight Gary.

I hope I am wrong but I just can't see us bridging that gap especially if we don't win today.
We have been far too negative this season and we must go out looking for a win and not a 0 - 0 draw.

Sheffield Wednesday? Miles behind. And can people stop saying 'Team GB' it's almost as cringeworthy as our owners.
