Simon Garner column: Attacking mentality crucial for Royal test

BLACKBURN Rovers have to go into tomorrow’s game at Reading looking to win rather than playing for the draw.

It is a massive game and is certainly one they cannot afford to lose but you cannot go into the game with that mentality otherwise you will get beaten.

It is always a tough place to go and it will be tough tomorrow. Reading are scoring goals for fun at the moment and Rovers will have to be at their best but I am confident they can come away with a result.

For me, they have to play two up front and be positive. Reading play quite open football so Rovers will get their chances and it is then all about taking them.

Rovers have played quite well in recent weeks and if you start to change the system and play with just one striker it can have a negative impact on the team.

They can’t be too cavalier and really need to contain the game for the first half-hour and soak up Reading pressure and get the home crowd on their backs.

Reading have scored seven and five recently at home so there will be a lot of expectation from the home fans and if Rovers can frustrate the crowd they can go on and win.

If they get through to half-time in the game it will open up in the second half and Rovers can get the points.

With players like Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede in the side there will always be goals.

It was a huge surprise to me that Jordan was not in the Scotland squad. He is a big player for Rovers and he scores goals.

It could be good news for Rovers though as it is one less game for him and one less game to get injured in!

He hasn’t had much luck when he has been with the Scotland squad before and quite often has had to pull out so maybe that has had a bearing on Gordon Strachan’s thinking.

Well said Simon. This is like a cup final and we have to battle for 90 minutes, keep possession and no giving the ball away in midfield. Get the ball into the box as many times as possible to give Rudy and Jordan the chances.
3-1 Rovers. COYB

Your cup final is on the 9th March.

After that your season is dead.

This is a simple Equation first of all we need 3 points and if we are good enough to get them then we are contenders for the play off,s , its that simple,on the other hand if we can,t then we are just average and not in the race at all,Reading are getting better all the time and this will be tough.COYB

But I have though.

It's a pity your mum won't be home soon though isn't it. looks like she's pulling another night shift on Shadsworth Road. You must really hate seeing her staggering home at 9am every morning looking dishevelled and walking like John Wayne with a carrot up his ar5e.
I don't see my mum at 9am, I'm usually at work for that time mungo mark and we all know the only job you ever had was off your dad.

The good news is she might be home earlier than expected due to a group booking, just seen her climbing in to the back of a Transit van with several coloured gentlemen. Perhaps you should run a bath now, I think this one could be messy!

Well if it was a group booking then you would think she would be back later not early. Come on mark, get a grip son. I understand you are a little dim. God bless ya.
