Scotland snub can inspire Blackburn Rovers ace Jordan Rhodes

This Is Lancashire: Jordan Rhodes Jordan Rhodes

JORDAN Rhodes can recover from his disappointment at missing out on a Scotland call-up by firing Rovers to victory at Reading tomorrow, believes boss Gary Bowyer.

Sixteen-goal striker Rhodes was a surprising omission from Gordon Strachan’s squad for the friendly with Poland next month but Bowyer feels that could benefit Rovers.

The match falls the Wednesday before the derby with Burnley and as well as keeping his star striker for the build-up to the East Lancashire clash, he reckons any frustration Rhodes is feeling can help the 24-year-old end his eight game goal drought at the Madjeski Stadium tomorrow.

“If he is disappointed that he is not in the squad then hopefully we can be the benefactors of that by him going out and taking it out on Reading,” said the Rovers boss.

Bowyer would not be drawn on his thoughts on Strachan’s squad – which included Rovers skipper Grant Hanley but had no room for Rhodes, Tom Cairney or Craig Conway – all of who Bowyer believes can be regular Scotland internationals.

The Rovers chief added: “It is not for me to comment on what Mr Strachan wants to do with his squad.

“Mr Strachan doesn’t pick my team and I don’t pick his team. We know that Jordan Rhodes is a fantastic goalscorer for Blackburn Rovers with a tremendous work rate and that is what we will be looking for at Reading.”

And Bowyer insists that Rhodes’ recent barren streak in front of goal – he has not scored since the New Year’s Day win at Leeds – is nothing to be concerned about given his burgeoning partnership with Rudy Gestede.

The former Cardiff man has scored four goals in that period and Bowyer sees that as proof that it is not all about goals for his striking pair.

The Rovers boss added: “Jordan has not scored but he has set two of Rudy’s goals up which have ended up winning us matches.

“They are working well as a partnership and they have got the ability to play up front as a two and to lead the line on their own.

“You look at Liverpool at the moment with Suarez and Sturridge and you look at Manchester City and their frontline. Jordan and Rudy at the moment are proving a handful for the opposition and long may that continue.”

And Gestede believes that he is starting to see the benefits of an extended run in the team alongside Rhodes, insisting the pair are beginning to gel as a strike partnership.

“We have good link-up play and we have done well in the past few games. It could be a good partnership.”

But the French forward insisted it was important that other players helped to take the goalscoring burden of the strikers – Rhodes and Gestede have scored 20 of Rovers’ 37 league goals between them.

And the 25-year-old, who was part of Cardiff’s promotion-winning squad last season, used the Bluebirds as an example of how sharing the goals around can benefit the team.

“Last season when we went up with Cardiff everybody was able to score goals and that is very important for the team,” said Gestede who scored five times in the Championship last season.

“We have other players who can do that as well and it is not only about Jordan and me.”

Looks like Rhodes has been found out for the one-dimensional striker he really is.

No goals in 8 games says it all.

A very good League One striker, but an average Championship striker who has had a lucky run. Never an international.

Now the goals have dried up, what next for Laughingstock FC?

Oh well, that 's good for us if our players are not going on international duty and then getting injured, which is what happened to Corry Evans.

That's one thing that's helped the Dingles this season, not having any international players.

Give me a minute while I count all the internationals at Burnley, shouldn't take long...

You've slipped two places in the league and dropped out of contention for the play-off's because he's not scoring goals. His workload might be 100% but his job is to score goals, he's not scored in 8 games and as a direct results your season is now over.

No goals in 8 games is very very poor, and perhaps a sign that he wants out. Maybe you clowns should have cashed in during the January transfer window instead of holding a player against his will?

And he we see the first cracks starting to appear, the no-dads are beginning to feel the panic setting in, that big day is fast approaching and they have nothing left in the locker, there is no Premier League team to goad us with, there is no experienced manager, there isn't even a decent following to shout about.

It's all gone so very tragically wrong at Blackburn Rovers at the worst possible time. No goals in 8 for want-away Jordan Rhodes, a squad weakened even further with the loss of its captain and centre half, two tough away games at Reading and Bolton with the likelihood of slipping into the bottom half, and then the big day itself. The East Lanc's derby and the day when those baggy, ill-fitting Blue and White boxer shorts are finally whipped down as the rampant Clarets give it to you dry.

Oh what fun it will be!

Against his will? At no point has he forced a move, or claimed a need to move.

Seriously if I wanted any comeback I would have wiped it off your mums chin.

Hey this look up Blackburn guy
Mate what is your problem?
this is supposed to be a site for Rovers fan yet you cannot resist being a keyboard warrior and trying to wind everyone up?
great Burnley are doing better than Rovers this season, good for you lot and if the team get promoted they will have deserved it.
I've plenty of Burnley mates and the banter is a good laugh. Try it instead of your inane bitterness as whichever way you try to justify it you just make yourself look stupid again and again and again.
Are you are a real football fan ? then act like one and lets have some proper banter instead of this crap
It looks as if you must enjoy the attention you get. You don't ever say anything new or even remotely interesting so do yourself a favour and stop being a W****r if you are able ?

Cheer up Mungo, Your mum will be home soon. CHIM CHIMANY.
35 Years
I honestly don’t know what you’re going to say when this has gone. Oh what fun.
That record may vanish from existence on planet dingle, but on planet earth that record will remain forever, unless of course you fail to beat us yet again - in which case it'll be 36 years.
I'm assured you'll win though and with ease 4,5,6 nil, so we'll have to settle with 35 years amongst the other derby day massacres we've dished out & I can certainly live with that.

When Rovers stuff the scum at Ewood in a couple of weeks time we won't see this total t**t for dust, and that goes for the rest of his identities.

Here he goes again with his ridiculous statements..are you seriously challenging us on attendance?? Really? When you have an ex- player Director ( oh btw Willie Irvine was a great player and was and still is a real gent- unlike you) begging Burnley folk to turn out and support. .Mind you had the same problem in the 70's when Adamson was boss and had a truly great side, unlike the current pretenders
And as for your predictions of what you are gonna do at Ewood ...rflmao
You have never got one right yet..
Finally I note your use again of a ( homo ) sexual reference to describe your supposed victory at Ewood. You are a very disturbed and perverse little man
You need help.
