Venky's give Blackburn Rovers boss funds for players

BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has been told by Venky’s he has funds to bolster his squad in the final week of the transfer window.

Bowyer received reassurances from the Rovers’ owners during talks in India this week that he could go back into the market after shipping out more than 10 players.

And the Rovers chief, who is looking to strengthen in defence and attack, has not ruled making a new signing before tomorrow’s big Championship clash with Derby.

He said: “We didn’t just talk about outs, we mentioned a couple of ins to them, so we’ll see.

“We’ve got some players out on loan so some of that has freed up some funds.

“You have to see what is out there and what is available on the market.

“If the right loan comes along then that’s something we would take to the owners and if there’s a permanent deal which we feel is a steal or something that we can act very quickly on, then that is something we would look into as well.”

The Rovers chief, who has been linked with strikers Martyn Waghorn, Matty Fryatt and Luke Varney, refused to be drawn on the names on his shortlist.

He added: “It would be wrong of me to speak about players who are contracted to other clubs.”

Bowyer’s views come after QPR manager Harry Redknapp said his hopes of signing Jordan Rhodes were dead in the water after claiming Rovers wanted ‘£8m or £9m’ for their 16-goal top scorer.

Bowyer responded by stating that Rhodes – who Venky’s insist is not for sale – would cost ‘double’ the £8m Rovers paid for him from Huddersfield Town.

He said: “Harry Redknapp’s spoke about Jordan, he was very complimentary and we thank him for those comments.

“The figure that he mentioned is what we paid for him. He’s not stopped scoring since he’s got here yet his value has not gone up. I don’t get that.

“Anybody that comes in and does what he’s done – which is unbelievable by the way – has got to have (at least) doubled his value. It just can’t stay the same.”

Bowyer returned from India on Wednesday after three days with Venky’s.

Of the trip, he said: “It was a good meeting with them and we discussed how we can improve both on and off the pitch.”

Meanwhile, Rovers midfielder Fabio Nunes is a reported target for Italian Serie B outfit Latina.

Good to see that Venkys are still putting money in and not just getting rid of bodies. I'm quite surprised as I've been one of their fiercest critics since their arrival. Are they learning ?
A statement of their intentions would be nice and could temper some fans feelings of resentment towards them, including me. Why don't they do themselves a favour?

Luke Varney, no thanks!!! Regarding Waghorn and Fryatt - Leicester fans on the Leicester football news comments section in their local paper think he (waghorn) is a hardworking decent player, but he doesn't score anywhere near enough goals to warrant a place in the team. And Fryatt in the Hull news comments section is a player the fans like and would like to keep as a back-up incase their current forwards let them down.

Fryatt all the way for me! Don't understand why there doesn't appear to be a stampede for his services. His record is excellent at championship level, and he wouldn't command a huge transfer fee.

For me, I'm happier for them to keep their mouths shut than come out with the cringe-worthy comments when they do decide to say anything... They're just an embarrassment! As long as their statement of intention is shown in the actions they have taken lately and continues, then I am happy never to hear another word from them!! I think it will be a long time before fans lose the resent they have for them!

Forrest and Sheff Wednesday are interested so if GB wants him he needs to move. I don't think Fryatt would come here to sit on the bench though so who do we leave out?

Probably because they employed a sports PR company to advise them last year, the first advice given was probably get rid of Singh, second was probably keep your heads down and let one man do all the talking for you.

To me their intent remains clear, they are fully supporting the club in a bid to change things around, otherwise they would have walked by now.

I am quite happy with the way things are going at present, steady progress all across the club.

If you both notice I did say SOME fans. Others will never forgive them but if they're genuine, IF, speaking to the fans won't do any harm.

I'm sure Hull's team pages weren't exactly gushing about Cairney or Evans, Leicester with Marshall or Cardiff with Gestede.
God love yer average football fan, but I'd much rather go with Gary Bowyers opinions on what he needs to strengthen the squad on a budget!!

I agree they do appear to be supporting the club after all the scare stories of asset stripping and administration etc..... and do seem to be slowly turning things round. We seem to be heading in the right direction at last but lots of fans still don't trust them, probably because of their lack of communication perhaps.

Personally I think Chris DB above was absolutely right. Venkys are in a position now where absolutely anything they say will be ridiculed, dragging up the past or making claims for the future is pointless, it is actions that matter, not words.

I have said for a long time that the best thing they can do is behave like sponsors, not owners, put the money in and let the football folk get on with it. If they continue to do that, as they have done more recently, then some normalcy may return.

Yes GS, probably best to leave things as they are with Venkys. On the footballing side we seem to be getting a bit nearer to where we want to be in this division with GB slowly improving the squad. It'll take a lot longer to climb back up the ladder than it did to fall down it.

Fryatt all the way for me! Don't understand why there doesn't appear to be a stampede for his services. His record is excellent at championship level, and he wouldn't command a huge transfer fee.
wow we do follow a lot of teams pages.
Lol. It only takes two minutes to do and finding out what fans think of players is one of the best ways to decide whether you should go for a player or not. Look at Bradley Orr, if everybody read these pages nobody would touch him. That's probably where we are going wrong, everybody needs to come on here and start praising players we want shut of.

Forrest and Sheff Wednesday are interested so if GB wants him he needs to move. I don't think Fryatt would come here to sit on the bench though so who do we leave out?
I would leave Ruddy out for the time being. If Fryatt keeps up his 1 goal in 3 record he keeps his place, but if he doesn't then there are no guarantees. No team can do more than that.

I think atm Fryatt would choose us over Wednesday, but not too sure whether he would choose us or Forrest. I think it would come down to who offers the highest wages.

Hi Harwood - joking aside and referring to the article I fail to see how the Venky's are supporting you. Freed up funds for loan players or permanent signings if they are a steal? Where are they putting the money in?
They are billionaires and have the ability to compete with Fernandes at QPR - are they doing anything that resembles that?

Didn't read about Gestede, but did read about Cairney, Evans and Marshall. And most opinion about Cairney was they didn't want to sell, at least not for £600,000 - those comments imo were spot on, we have got a bargain signing. Regarding Marshall the fans thought after a blistering start at Leicester that he went off the boil - I can fully understand that as for us he has been either top drawer, or has underperformed in the games he has started thus far (needs more consistency).

Two hours after this story was released and there is an unusual absence of dingles posting their deluded garbage.

Theories and prophecies of financial doom at BRFC once again appear to have been misplaced. The dingles, sitting in third, have signed a Brighton benchwarmer and want an Oldham centre half. Rovers have spent £1 million on Cairney/Gestede and more money is being made available for signings. Rhodes is happy at the club and the owners won't be selling him unless it is an eye-watering figure. Danny Ings is for sale and will sign for any club that offers more than £5 million and betters his relatively low wages.

This newspaper has spent months telling us that Rovers needed to sell before they could buy any more players. Well, who has been sold? We've made two permanent signings so far. Granted the wage bill has been reduced slightly with several loan departures, but no money has been brought in in fees. So it looks like you got it wrong.

I'd be quite happy with Fryatt or Waghorn coming in to work with Rhodes and Gestade. Other than that we should be looking to improve the goalkeeper situation if Robbo has continuing injury doubts.

Hi Mc....Rhodes says he's happy at Rovers and happy to stay.
Has Danny Ings said the same amid all the transfer speculation?
All gone eerily quiet re Ings, guess his agent must be in some exotic resort planning his campaign. For me the signing of Barnes is to strengthen the bid for promotion this season with a view to Ings being sold in the summer if promotion is not achieved with Barnes being the replacement. Case of succession planning but with hopes of not having to put the plan into action.
If either of them harbour ambitions then they will both be off if they are not promoted this season. That said, it would be crazy of either club to sell them in this window and both clubs need to resist should the moment come.
Hope you get the points tomorrow!

I don't think that the Venky organisation will lose too much sleep over the number of small minded individuals who continue to disrespect and vilify them. They clearly recognise their mistakes in trusting people that patently set out to cheat and rob them and in my humble opinion, have recently acted in a diligent and dignified manner. I could point to a number of worse owners throughout our leagues but we will always be saddled with a bunch of ex supporters harbouring an unrealistic sense of entitlement by expecting that a small club like ours could survive on our attendances, even when we were in the Premiership. I have said it before and will continue to ask you to consider the treachery of the Walker Trust before leaping to lynch Venkys.
Must go now, my flight to Pune has just been called.

Fair points about both players, if either team is still in the Championship at the end of this season, I think serious offers will come in and then it's how ambitious the players are.

No-dad reality check...

For those Blackburn fans who seem to think they have something to be positive about, this is what Venky's have done for you....

2009/2010 Premier League 10th
2010/2011 Premier League 15th
2011/2012 Premier League 19th (RELEGATED)
2012/2013 Championship 17th (survival on last day of season)
2013/2014 ?

And all the while the financial situation worsens and the squad weakens.

Net debt = £56 million
Monthly loss = £3 million
Transfer embargo next season

What a shambles.

Probably because they employed a sports PR company to advise them last year, the first advice given was probably get rid of Singh, second was probably keep your heads down and let one man do all the talking for you.

To me their intent remains clear, they are fully supporting the club in a bid to change things around, otherwise they would have walked by now.

I am quite happy with the way things are going at present, steady progress all across the club.
I agree they do appear to be supporting the club after all the scare stories of asset stripping and administration etc..... and do seem to be slowly turning things round. We seem to be heading in the right direction at last but lots of fans still don't trust them, probably because of their lack of communication perhaps.
Can't believe DD has not been on, out out out with lot of them Lol.

I cannot understand why our fans think Venkey's are billionaires as when they purchased us their entire global business made £20 million profits. I cannot see how they could be worth even as much as Jack and Fred at their peak. I think if they were billionaires we wouldn't be getting shut of all our players to cut costs.
We are now still running on much higher wages than say Burnley are but we have not been as fortunate as them in getting austi and ings for next to nowt we had to pay £8 million for our only decent striker I suppose what comes round will com round for us.

I admire the glass half full optimism but think they could easily buy you out of this division like JW did - so why are they not doing it?
Ah, a dingle that talks some sense !

You are spot on - all these dingle lovers on this site contradict themselves time after time when it comes to Venkys.

They say £50m debt no problem cos our owners are billionaires who are supporting us financially.

Well, if £50m is no problem why don't they put £50m into player transfers then get us back into the premiership ? Sure we'd get a massive fine from the FFP but they're billionaires who treat the club like their "baby" (their words not mine) - so they could pay the fine out of their loose change cos they are so rich.

Instead they are "supporting" GB financially by letting him get in "loan signings" or players maybe sold "under their market value" - thats hardly "going for broke" is it !

And some fans on here lap it up like these people (Venkys) are wonderful rather than the bringers of doom and disaster that they have actually been.

Remember they are the idiots who have got us into this mess and if they are so rich (as many on here claim) whats wrong with expecting them to fork out £50-100m (surely its loose change to these BILLIONAIRES) to get us back to mid table PL where we were before they took us over and ar$ed it all up.

Too many people who post on here forget that since BRFC was formed on 5th November 1875 the VENKYS have been the biggest disaster our great club has ever endured and allowing our current (excellent) manager to go out and sign a couple of loanee's dosent change that fact.

Many are posting saying that Venkys need to show "deeds not words" and thats true so lets see Venkys pump in £50m cash - they can do that today BEFORE the FFP restrictions come into place and we will not endure a transfer embargo and we'd have a great chance of going up next season if not this - however the reason these "billionaires" don't give us this "loose change" (as many on here cal it) is that in reality they don't give a flying fcuk about BRFC (cerainly Mrs D dosent) but they can't just put us into administration and walk away like some wrongly say - why ? because the Rovers debt is tied to "Venkys India" not "Venkys London" and so if they put Rovers into administration then Venkys themselves would still owe all the debt to the Bank of India - it has nothing to do with "love of the club" but money - they can't get away from the debt they have wracked up, even if they wanted to.

No-dad reality check...

For those Blackburn fans who seem to think they have something to be positive about, this is what Venky's have done for you....

2009/2010 Premier League 10th
2010/2011 Premier League 15th
2011/2012 Premier League 19th (RELEGATED)
2012/2013 Championship 17th (survival on last day of season)
2013/2014 ?

And all the while the financial situation worsens and the squad weakens.

Net debt = £56 million
Monthly loss = £3 million
Transfer embargo next season

What a shambles.
You lot said all this last season that we would be playing in div 1 all the players would be sold no money to buy players etc etc etc etc yaw yaw yaw yaw

And all this coming from a deluded no-dad who hasn't the first idea of how much damage to his club the Financial Fair-Play restrictions are about to inflict.

A No-dad who sincerely believes that Blackburn Rovers are not subject to a transfer embargo and that this punishment is only handed out if a clubs owners cannot afford to pump more and more cash in to cover the losses.

Truly hilarious.

Keep up the false optimism you mugs, you're good for a laugh if nothing else, and all the while the infrastructure of your "once-proud" but now a laughingstock football club crumbles under the weight of the debt your clueless Indian owners are saddling you with.

What are you talking about dingle? You sound very bitter and angry today. Is it because everything you've been saying for the last six weeks has turned out to be utter trash?

'Damage to his club the financial fair play restrictions are about to inflict' - wait a minute, I thought that the whole point in these rules was to HELP clubs, not damage them? You seem to be the expert on all things FFP and Blackburn Rovers so you're now telling us all that the rules are going to damage clubs?

Since you're such an expert you'll no doubt be aware that along with Blackburn there are at least another 6-7 clubs in the Championship who are on course to break the rules. Are you really that deluded that you think the Football League are going to subject half the division to transfer embargoes? Can you imagine the damage that it would do to their competition, not to mention the inevitable legal challenges that would come with it.

It doesn't seem to be bothering QPR, Forest, Middlesbrough etc. nor clubs that could well be relegated from the Premier League this season. Believe it or not there are people out there who know a bit more about it than you who clearly are not expecting it to be a disaster.

I'm not sure what you are wittering on about, but then again dingles never were the most intelligent of folk. I'm sure I've never said anything about punishments only being handed out if owners cannot afford to pump more cash in to cover losses. I know how these rules are supposed to work, I just don't believe they are enforceable.

Since we're on the subject of talking about each other's clubs, how are you expecting Burnley to meet the requirements? Last accounts reported an £8 million loss. In recent years you have sold Austin, Rodriguez and Fletcher for big profits and hardly spent any money. Your parachute money is ending this summer and your owners haven't got any money.
I'd suggest you spend more of your time worrying about your poor club racking up more alarming losses despite selling your best players every year. 9,000 home crowds and struggling to pay the gas bills. Not too far away from an embargo yourselves, with nobody putting money in to help the club.

Not too far away from an embargo yourselves, with nobody putting money in to help the club. jack01

Some good points, but unfortunately I have to correct you on one of them, the company that owns Rovers is Venky's London Ltd - this is a separate company to Venky's India Ltd in both name and legal obligation.

When Venky's pull out, which they will within 2 seasons due to the prospect of further massive losses, then the debt will not follow them. Venky's India Ltd has no legal attachment to Blackburn Rovers. The parent company Venkateshwara Hatcheries Pvt Ltd is currently financing Rovers where necessary in order for Venky’s London to continue to trade. Once the financial support ceases, Venky's London is no longer a viable business and administration of Blackburn Rovers football club will follow. Which ultimately means a points deduction.

All the while the debt is increasing and as seen to date, Venky's refuse to put in the cash required for BRFC to climb out of the Championship, and not only that, nothing is being paid off.

There are very bleak times ahead for Blackburn Rovers.

They won't put £50 million in today for the same reason that no other Championship clubs won't. Why don't QPR spend £50 million or Leicester? The FFP restrictions are based on accounts for this year. At the very least we have to be seen to be trying to conform. They spent a fortune last season and paid Premier League wages and it got us nowhere.

You're right, for Venkys it is about the money. The only way they're going to stand a chance of recovering what they have put in is to get the club back up.

Would you prefer it if they sold Rhodes and didn't put another penny in? Because there are plenty of owners out there who would do that if they were in charge of Rovers.

Cheers Mc. I agree we don't want to lose our best strikers at this stage, with us having a chance of the play offs and you almost guaranteed
Unless both clubs start showing some real ambition / investment I can see both of them being gone in the summer as you say.

You get the feeling this paper's sport page isn't written by a Rovers fan . Silly photos of GB used, gibberish articles and a lack of connection with the club and the fans.

Hi Harwood - joking aside and referring to the article I fail to see how the Venky's are supporting you. Freed up funds for loan players or permanent signings if they are a steal? Where are they putting the money in?
They are billionaires and have the ability to compete with Fernandes at QPR - are they doing anything that resembles that?

You can keep saying it WLUV, but it won't make it happen. BTW, have you got a new crystal ball to go with your new moniker? You seem to think you can make accurate predictions. Unfortunately for you, none have come true yet and you just keep looking a bit daft.
The trouble is Mungo, it IS happening, and its happening exactly as I predicted.

You ARE in a financial mess.

You ARE £56 million in debt.

You ARE subject to a transfer embargo.

Just because you pretend its not happening to you doesnt mean it will go away.

Your club is donald ducked and deep down you know it.

Keep looking up moron!

Sorry you are wrong.

When Venkys left Barclays and moved Venkys London to Bank of India, BoI agreed to the same over-draft terms that Barclays had given Venkys EXCEPT the account had to be guaranteed by Venkys India.

This was to protect the Bank from Venkys simply walking away and leaving the bank with a football club it didnt want.

That dosent mean Rovers can't ever go into administration but what it does mean that Venkys not BRFC are at least tied to a big chunk, if not all of the debt.

Sorry Jacko "the Venky worshiper" but you can't have it both ways.

You and others often post on here saying £56m debt is "no problem" to us as a club cos our "wonderfull" owners are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO rich - well if they're so fuuuuuuuuuuuuucking rich and monies no problem then why don't they put money into the club????

If they do that and the get fined - so fucccckin what ?????? - acording to you they are BILLIONAIRES (and we are their baby) so what if they get a FFP fine - You keep going on like money is no object to these people ??

Stop defending these SCUM by contradicting yourself. They are either rich enough to sort out any financial problems we have or the arn't or they are rich enough but they just don't care enough about the club to sort out the financial probems (THAT THEY MADE !!!).

I've read hundreds of your posts and I've still to read you say one bad thing about them scummers who've brought our great club to its knees - all you ever seem to do is defend them and attack any Rovers fan who writes ACURATELY about what a disaster Venkys have been as owners.

Hi Mc....Rhodes says he's happy at Rovers and happy to stay.
Has Danny Ings said the same amid all the transfer speculation?
The Telegraph says he’s happy. It’s a newspaper they don’t always tell it as it is and they do make things up. If I was you I would be more worried about departures from Ewood. Remember only two weeks ago Rovers said they had to sell before they could buy. Who have they sold???

Good to see that Venkys are still putting money in and not just getting rid of bodies. I'm quite surprised as I've been one of their fiercest critics since their arrival. Are they learning ?
A statement of their intentions would be nice and could temper some fans feelings of resentment towards them, including me. Why don't they do themselves a favour?
Hi Harwood - joking aside and referring to the article I fail to see how the Venky's are supporting you. Freed up funds for loan players or permanent signings if they are a steal? Where are they putting the money in?
They are billionaires and have the ability to compete with Fernandes at QPR - are they doing anything that resembles that?
I admire the glass half full optimism but think they could easily buy you out of this division like JW did - so why are they not doing it?
Because they are not football fans. How many games have they attended this season? Fernandes goes to matches, Abramovich does, they don’t. That says a lot. They thought they were going to make money out of Blackburn Rovers and well look what’s happened, they have lost a fortune. They are just letting it tick over till they decide on their exit strategy.

A comment from a Claret, genuinely in peace (a once only offer!)

I think that a family with this sort of net worth can continue to put up guarantees to cover the club's borrowing. The banks know they are good for it. However, I sense that they are now moving rapidly towards a self-sustaining model. I suspect too, that they have for more professional guidance now far behind the scenes.

Its a logical move to pair down the squad and the wage bill. 10 players at 15K per week is 7.8m a year. A bank will let you capitalise this at about 60% giving you just over £4m of working capital. You've brought two in for a reputed £850,000. You've got about £3.2m to play with. A creative midfielder, a good central defender and a forward should see you become true playoff contenders. GB may just have been the right appointment.

Good plan that,Jerome.

For those Blackburn fans who seem to think they have something to be positive about, this is what Venky's have done for you....

2009/2010 Premier League 10th
2010/2011 Premier League 15th
2011/2012 Premier League 19th (RELEGATED)
2012/2013 Championship 17th (survival on last day of season)
2013/2014 ?

And all the while the financial situation worsens and the squad weakens.

Net debt = £56 million
Monthly loss = £3 million
Transfer embargo next season

What a shambles.
You must have actually gone to the trouble of looking all that up. You sad, sad man.

Truth be told Venky's haven't got as much money as you'd like them to have. The parent company's previous profits of £20 million don't make them the big player that some of you imagine. Their performance to date at Blackburn Rovers however has been immense, relegation, saddling you with unmanageable debts, a transfer embargo, and possibly the weakest Blackburn squad in decades. In Venky's we trust.

Disappointed chicken plucker thought your knowledge of your favourite team was better than that. It was November 2010 venkys took over. You are correct rovers finished an excellent 10 th, can't remember where Burnley finished. Care to remind us all !!!!!

I think you aren't far off the mark either, from what we know the only money Rovers have "borrowed" is in the form of a negotiated overdraft with Venky's bank, the value being circa £11 million, I believe that is up for negotiation later this year.

All clubs, like any business have overdrafts.

The remainder of the much vaunted "debt" is to Venky's themselves, it's at 0% interest and there is no date specified regarding it having to be repaid.

Of course this debt remains on the books but I am pretty certain that Venky's will have creative accountants who will be looking for ways to legally reduce the risk regarding "Fair Play".

After all, if Chelsea can write off a £49 million loss under the auspice of "Fair Play" just like that, why can't other clubs follow their lead?

Another point of interest, everyone is pointing the finger at Bolton with their £180+ million debt, but when they were relegated from the PL that debt was over £300 million.

So how have they managed that reduction?

Think you have that wrong Nick, Bolton when relegated had debts of around £100m, including those to their owner, the position has got worse, not better.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply! When did they start the transfer embargo?
