Rovers boss will bring back Rhodes

This Is Lancashire: Jordan Rhodes Jordan Rhodes

TOP-scorer Jordan Rhodes should return to lead Blackburn Rovers’ line for tomorrow’s home clash with Doncaster.

After a run of 23 consecutive starts the 16-goal striker was rested for last weekend’s FA Cup draw with Manchester City.

But Rhodes, who came on for the final nine minutes of the 1-1 Ewood Park draw, is expected to be in Gary Bowyer’s starting XI tomorrow.

Rovers boss Bowyer said: “We had a busy Christmas period and Jordan had a niggle so we saw it as an opportunity to get some minutes into Rudy Gestede and rest Jordan at the same time, with also having one eye on bringing him on and scoring the winner.

“The little bit of a breather will have done him the world of good.

“He was then able to take a couple of days off to recover from it completely.”

Midfielder David Dunn will come into contention tomorrow after missing the last four matches with a hamstring strain.

But Todd Kane (thigh), Corry Evans (ankle) and Dickson Etuhu (ankle) remain sidelined.

Bowyer also has a ‘dilemma’ over who to select in goal after fit-again keeper Paul Robinson made an impressive comeback against City after 13 months on the sidelines.

Rovers have sold 2,100 tickets of their initial 2,800-ticket allocation for Wednesday night’s FA Cup replay with Manchester City.

There is quite a bit of talk in the Nationals this morning of Danny Ings on the radar of several premier League clubs but nothing about Rhodes. I can’t understand that.

Is there any truth that Ings supports the mighty Rovers?

Apparently his idol was Alan Shearer and thats where his love for BRFC comes from as Ings started at Southampton as a young lad and wanted to follow in his idols footsteps , allegedly.

Over 2k tickets sold for the City replay is superb!

Lets hope for a decent whole hearted performance from the team to reward these loyal fans and as for the result - well its football and anything can happen in 90 mins - esp as City have some important games on their minds...

Would also be nice to see Rhodes and Gestade start together on saturday, that would frighten Donnie to death!

i think it will be eastwood again, and then give robbo the guaranteed game at eastlands.
it rewards eastwood for some decent performances and gives robbo a furthe chance to test his fitness. if he comes through that ok, then it's a 3-way race for the number 1 jersey. i guess kean's out of it for the near future, but i certainly wouldn't give it to robbo automatically. i think eastwood has been good.

And here's me thinking leaving Rhodes out was a tactical decision GO thoughtnot

For certain games this season this should have happened as a matter of course as having Rhodes playing up front on his own when he cannot win aerial headers against two defenders on him or even have the strength to hold the ball up has been ludicrous.

Rovers grossly overpaid for Rhodes and to get a return now they need to make a profit and that won’t happen. Not when there are younger, better English players around. Ie Ings for one.

I agree; Robinson would very much be my long-term choice for the No.1 shirt but he could do with being eased in after such a long spell out. Eastwood tomorrow, Robinson on Wednesday, and take it from there.

Notthing to think - Robbo is back and he proved in the city game. He was amazing, if he keeps that tempo- we will be ok and it will be a learning for others. Jake Kean and Eastwood are ok players, not that class effect on ground. We need to push our chance in next 20 games, so this is the correct time for Robbo to bounce back and start every match.

My team :

Taylor,Cairney,Lowe,
Dunn
Rudy,Rhodes
Sub : Eastwood,Killgalon,S

You are sounding a bit more optimistic than you were before the last City game Frenchy. Your previous words of no chance come to mind on one of your previous posts. I will be disappointed if Gb doesn't start Gestede or Rhodes together tomorrow or puts Gestede in the hole behind Rhodes, if he want's to that he should do it the other way round as Gestede is looking like he will be a great leader of the line with Rhodes feeding off him.

The number of tickets sold is brilliant. It's like the old days as we go to witness a giant killing in the making. And you know, with determination and a hell of a lot of luck, City may do it and turn us over.
