ROVERS were held to a goalless draw by Wednesday in their Boxing Day fixture at Ewood Park.

Simon Eastwood made a superb early save to keep out Atdhe Nuhiu’s effort before Jordan Rhodes saw a shot deflected into the side netting at the other end.

Rhodes was later denied by a save from Chris Kirkland before Eastwood kept out another header rom Nuhiu.

Rovers lost Chris Taylor to injury on the stroke of half time, with the wide man carried off in a neck brace, and replaced by substitute Josh King.

Ben Marshall fired a free kick just over the bar early in the second half before Rudy Gestede, making his first start for Rovers since joining on loan from Cardiff City, was thwarted by Kirkland.

A Stephen McPhail free kick was deflected just wide for the Owls before Rovers boss Gary Bowyer brought on Lee Williamson for Gestede, pushing Marshall into a more advanced position.

Tom Cairney sent a close-range shot wide for the home side but Rovers could not find a winner, although they did extend their unbeaten run to four matches.

DJ Campbell was an unused substitute, having been named on the bench for the first time since he was arrested earlier this month by police probing spot-fixing allegations.

The forward was bailed until April and has not been charged.
